A few years ago I published the text of a talk I gave on the idea "Anglophone Islam", which prompted some great discussions and debates. I'm pleased to say it's now a peer-reviewed article in Contemporary Islam - open access and link here link.springer.com/article/10.100…

You know the loss of character counts is as integral to Twitter's decline as Elon Musk. Before, the racism had to boiled down to its very essence before posting, now I'm seeing lazy scatter gun racism, no class.

Ed Husain's 'Among the Mosques' is back in discussion. My favourite part of the book is when he admits to watching a young Muslim couple kiss in a car, only for them to stop when they see him leering at them. He takes this as a sign of extreme Muslim conservatism.
Kevin Hollinrake MP@kevinhollinrake

Islamism is a far-right ideology, not a faith. Ed Husain’s conclusions are clear: map it, fund-blockade it, confront it and enforce the law. Britain must stop appeasing extremists. @Ed_Husain book Among the Mosques is a must read. NB The problem is Islamists not moderate Muslims.

There is a relationship between the decline of unregulated noticeboards and the decline of civil society. Bring back the massive, overpopulated, messy noticeboard.

@johnmilbank3 Yes, Muslim schoolchildren and religiously literate education are the existential threat facing Britain right now. Please continue.

This has to be stopped. The rest of us have no need to obey Muslim injunctions and there is a limit to how far Muslim children in non-Muslim schools can expect them to be respected.
spiked@spikedonline

The Islamic fundamentalists who hounded a Batley schoolteacher into hiding are now setting education policy. Yorkshire schools have been warned images considered ‘idolatrous’ by Muslims won’t be tolerated. This is horrifying, says Hugo Timms buff.ly/1J42aNo

@holland_tom Not quite Tom. The policy says schools should not ask students to produce images of Jesus, not that they should forbid it.

“Respect for religious traditions should not undermine the requirement for all pupils to have a broad & balanced curriculum.” “[Students should not] reproduce images of Jesus, Prophet Mohammed or other figures considered to be prophets in Islam.” 🤔 new.calderdale.gov.uk/sites/default/…

@Adrian_Hilton To everyone who is familiar with religious education in Britain or who has read the guidance, your post is sadly a very clear and shameful example of jumping on the bandwagon of concocted outrage over Muslims.

What irks me most about this is that instead of issuing guidance for teachers to enforce sharia censorship upon all children (of all faiths and none), school should be a safe place for Muslim children to get used to the fact that other religions depict their gods and prophets in art. It ought to be about introducing them to Christian cultural norms, inclucating tolerance of other faith traditions; not making all conform to a particular Sunni Islamic belief.
David Atherton@DaveAtherton20

It's the 2nd day of the anti-Muslim hate edict & another outrage. Councils in Yorkshire & Lancashire have sent round an advisory letter warning about teachers allowing pupils to draw Mohammed & Jesus. It might be considered blasphemous. Also music is haram, as is drama as the opposite sexes might make contact. Quite frankly if you can't fit into a western liberal culture, pack your bags & go.

'Muslim Wales - A History in 9 Places' is now officially available for purchase! I really want these stories out there, for the names of Welsh Muslim pioneers to be known, and for Wales' Islamic history to be celebrated. Thank you to everyone who made this happen!

There is a British model, one that has arguably been more successful than any other Western nation and which has been built on centuries of experience - not perfect and not complete, but deserving advocates especially now.

Tommy Robinson is holding a carol service today billed as a statement that "Britain belongs to the British people." The cross is being co-opted into culture wars. But the King and the Pope have a very different vision of what faith means. My column:- times-comment.com/king

I'm excited to reveal the cover of a new book on the history of Muslims in Wales. The culmination of years of research that shows how long Islam has been a Welsh religion. If this sounds like something you'd want to read, you can be kept up-to-date via linktr.ee/MuslimWales

I'd defend him even if it was just some random aunty, perfectly justified use, but your father's cousin is actually your aunty. If you're calling her Jane or whatever you're just being rude.
Emma G. Fitzsimmons@emmagf

Zohran Mamdani is pressed on La Mega Radio if he lied when he said his aunt stopped taking the subway after the Sept. 11 attacks. Mamdani said: "It's not a lie. My father's cousin is my aunt." He said that was how he referred to her growing up.
