Ask for the hate crimes unit. Press charges. This is battery. It's also a hate crime under California law. The DA can prosecute both. Sue them. California's Ralph Act (Civil Code § 51.7) gives you a minimum $25,000 civil penalty plus attorney's fees when someone targets you with violence because of your religion. You can also sue for battery, emotional distress, and punitive damages. Also, apparently this perpetrator has 1.2 million followers, so a civil suit would also make a lot sense, lawyers will take it on contingency bc they will likely be able to get any money from judgment. I have attached the name of the person whose account it is, and her manager. You don't need to have been physically injured. Knocking a religious head covering off a person of faith at their place of worship is a crime and a civil rights violation. Period. This is not legal advice, except to say- this gentleman needs to press charges and get a lawyer.
