Thank you to @LewisMichie0 and @northsoundnews for interviewing volunteer crew member Stephen about fundraising at Aberdeen Lifeboat Station and how people can support the @RNLI.
Northsound News@northsoundnews

🌊 The @RNLI in Aberdeen have seen a massive drop in their fundraising income due to the pandemic - but they are busier than ever. 🚣🏽‍♀️ Our Reporter @LewisMichie0 spoke to one of the crew’s mechanics Stephen Brown about how you can help: 🔊 MORE: bit.ly/NorthsoundNews

Thank you to the SFO for their support, Union Square Aberdeen for hosting, our volunteers for getting fully involved on the day and everyone who donated. Didn’t catch us? Donations are vital to allow us to save lives at sea 24/7, 365 days a year.

We will, in fact, dance for your donations… 👀 Visiting @UnionSqAberdeen today? Check out The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, meet some of our crew and maybe even catch the next dance! 💃 🕺 🎻

Last week, our fairly routine shout was a standout as it marked the first shout for new crew member, Stewart Riley. Stewart, who works in an onshore role at @Harbourenergy, joined the crew in late 2022 and has been undergoing intensive training in his spare time.

Our thoughts have been with Barry, his family and colleagues this week and we share our condolences to all those who knew him. We work closely with @fire_scot locally and our colleagues here, in Edinburgh and across scotland remain in our thoughts at this difficult and sad time.

With profound sadness we can confirm that Firefighter Barry Martin has passed away following the serious injuries sustained during a large fire at the former Jenners building in Edinburgh. Interim Chief Officer Ross Haggart has issued this statement: ow.ly/HzpC50MCksc

Donations are vital to the running of the RNLI. Without donations we can’t provide kits, training, boats or even a station for the wonderful volunteers who give up their time, 24/7, 365 days a year to make sure that you - yes you! - and the local community are safe by the water!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year ⭐️ … and we’re not just talking about the festive season! For one day a year, RNLI Aberdeen gets to hit the city centre streets, see you all in person, and raise vital funds as part of our annual #flagdaycollection. (1/3)

Have you ever wondered how we launch the inshore lifeboat from the station into the water down below? Every time we launch on a shout or for training, Buoy Woody 85N takes to the skies and is lifted then lowered over the quayside into the harbour.

Autumn exercises really are something else. On Monday evenings our volunteers head out to get some much needed exercise time in on the boat to ensure that they’re ready to respond to any sort of incident. They love heading out, but views like this make it all the sweeter.

Jim’s wife Sandra and family remain at the forefront of our thoughts at this time. He will be with us every time we go to sea and will be truly missed by our local lifeboat family in Aberdeen.

Jim started as a crew member with Aberdeen Lifeboat in 2001. His fun, selfless and caring personality quickly made him a very popular member of the team. In 2011, Jim took up a role as a Deputy Launching Authority continuing his hard work as part of the stations management team.

It’s with a truly heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of our volunteer Deputy Launch Authorities and former crew member, Jim “Sammy” Wilson. Jim is truly an irreplaceable part of the station family and he was very much Aberdeen Lifeboat, through and through.
