Global Leadership in Geoscience: @IITKgp Faculty at the Helm Reinforcing its stature as a global hub of academic excellence and thought leadership, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, proudly celebrates the distinguished contribution of Prof. Abhijit Mukherjee, Department of Geology and Geophysics, who continues to serve on the Council of the Geological Society of America (GSA). Prof. Mukherjee recently participated in the Council Meeting of the Geological Society of America, held in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Established in 1888, GSA is among the world’s largest and most prestigious international organisations for geoscientists, with a vibrant community of over 15,000 members across more than 150 countries. Its Council serves as the discipline's apex governing body, shaping its vision and global engagement. Serving as a Councillor since 2022, Prof. Mukherjee holds the rare distinction of being the only representative from outside North America in this eminent body. In this role, he collaborates actively with global scientific leaders and national administrations to advance geoscience as a critical pillar of sustainable development worldwide.
