Update on Abba, the NYSC corps member who was abducted: Since receiving the ₦10 million ransom payment, Abba's abductors have completely cut off all communication with his family. So I just watched a video of DatWarriGirl, Charity talking about how she had this stomach paiñ, went to the hospital and a doctor referred her to a gynecologist and her first response was, “Why do I need a gynecologist? I’m not even sëgxually active.” First, as a woman, you do not see a gynecologist because you are sëgxually active. Being sëgxually active has nothing to do with seeing a gynecologist. Gynecologists deal with women’s reproductive health and fertility. If a doctor refers you, it is not automatically about sëgx or pregnancy. Cancél that mindset. Then she said that the gynecologist recognized her as Charity, she was later asked to change so they could run checks, and she left. She went home because she didn't want the gynea to ‘see her finish’. She said she is now feeling well, she initially assumed it was appendicitis, but even the appendicitis is gone and she laughed about it. This take is unpopular because it’s real immature, btw. I’ve literally watched white classmates develop real empathy for Black people because of To Kill a Mockingbird. Fiction can expand how folks understand motivation, fear, contradiction. The shit essays and self help books barely touch. Autobiographies always have a spin but good Fiction often doesn't tell you what to think. It drops you into situations where every choice costs something, and you have to sit with ambiguity and imperfect decisions, which builds REASONING. I've learned about West African traditions, Constantinople's politics, and political struggles of the Ottoman Empire from fiction. Malcolm Gladwell is cool, but he didn't improve my vocabulary like Ursula K. Le Guin. Fiction isn’t just entertainment. It’s mental rehearsal for being human. Escaping into a book can be as good for your brain and self regulation as meditation. And yeah, let me add one more chaotic perception I've had: Many “non-fiction only” men I've met are uncreative as hell and tend to treat women like achievements.
