Carrying “the greatest possible existential burden” doesn’t save anyone; Christ already carried the burden of sin on the Cross. The Gospel isn’t “pull yourself up by your bootstraps,” it’s “take up your cross and follow Me” (Lk 9:23). Grace, not stoic self-assertion, makes saints.
