Let’s quickly talk about OCD in a very simple way OCD is an abbreviation for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Wait! Let me break it down. It has just 3 words you’re already familiar with. Obsession: thoughts that keeps coming even when you don’t want them Compulsion: these are actions the person feels they must do to feel better Disorder: Fault/ problem E.G. Fear of dirt/germ. The person can’t help but to wash hands several time Another good example is the need for things to be arranged perfectly, in a specific way as in the case of this man. Look at the way all the slippers are in a straight line and all facing the same direction. If they take him away from that place, he can’t concentrate. OCD is not just being Neat, it’s the obsession, the compulsion, the fact that he can’t help it, he can’t look away. What causes it? There’s no single defined cause but it’s been linked to a number of things including some chemical imbalance in the brain, family history, stress, trauma, personality. So, next time, don’t say, “I have OCD” except you’re been clinically diagnosed. The good News is OCD is treatable with some medications and behavioral therapy
