Hours later, Iran retaliated. A desalination plant in Kuwait was struck, killing one worker. Around 90% of Kuwait’s freshwater came from desalination. At the same time, the IRGC hit major aluminum facilities, EGA in the UAE and ALBA in Bahrain. This region produced nearly 9% of the world’s aluminum. Prices jumped about 6% right after. Then another pressure point: Russia banned gasoline exports from April through July 2026 to protect its own supply. Put it all together and the pattern was clear: water systems, energy flows, industrial supply. And when those broke, the impact didn’t stay local.
