We have provisionally broken the UK record for highest daily minimum temperature in May... again 😮 Temperatures didn't fall below 21.3°C overnight at Kenley Airfield, making it a 'tropical night' (no lower than 20°C). Remarkably, the record was also broken yesterday.

Uber’s COO has said that it’s getting “harder to justify” its AI costs because there was no way to show a link between AI spend and any meaningful increase in useful features. This is the first time I’ve seen a company say this directly. businessinsider.com/uber-coo-andre…

There's too little money in HE to fund @UniversitiesUK anymore 38% of members is alarming until you realise only 1/3 replied — so it’s 12.6%, barely up from 11% Statistical inflation like this is why people struggle to take UUK seriously ft.com/content/ded7df…

@GoodwinMJ Your Reform Makerfield candidate publicly bragged about how he would love to both smell and lick Carol Vorderman’s arsehole. A healthy mind, that is not.

Crazy that despite the highest debt to gdp ratio in the world, japan has so many state assets their net debt is still lower than the UK and the US. looking at this comparison it's insane how emaciated the UK state is

Today has been the hottest day in May on record with Kew Gardens provisionally reaching 34.8°C - exceeding the previous highest May temperature in the UK by a full 2 degrees Celsius🌡️ This heat would be exceptional in the UK even in mid summer, let alone in May📈

The Burnham problem is not that he is cleaving to govt orthodoxy, but that people imagined he was leftwing because of his man-of-the-people vibe. It's like the centrists who assumed Starmer must be a competent manager because he wore a suit. averypublicsociologist.blogspot.com/2026/05/the-ro…

@Arbeitologist A colleague used to do this to start large lectures, because when you turn the music down people naturally stop talking. But the idea of having to chose a track in the first place has always prevented me from adopting it.

when i was a seminar tutor, a colleague asked me if i play any songs in class because they open every class with a track. Are you kidding me? I dont need kids' validation like that. Literally the only track I ever played was Schoenberg, to show them what Adorno was talking about.

One of my members who is studying to be a doctor attended a medical conference abroad last week and when she tried to come back with an active visa she was denied entry and shipped back to Brazil. She messaged me through our workout software to say goodbye.
