Two paths now exist. - Impeachment requires a 2/3 majority. - A vote of no confidence needs only 50%+1. Either way, the Impeachment Panel's makeup will reflect parliament proportionally - the ANC no longer holds enough seats to simply vote accountability away.

The ConCourt has now ruled. Ramaphosa says he's not resigning. So where does that leave South Africa? @PaulHoffmanSC joined Radio Al Ansaar to make sense of a moment that could define the presidency. A thread below. 🧵

The Constitutional Court ruled. Ramaphosa has responded. He's not resigning. This means the facts - the cash in a couch, the unreported burglary, a dollar deal on Christmas Day - now go before an Impeachment Panel. In public. Full article: dailyfriend.co.za/2026/05/10/wha…

Ideological bias in any history curriculum has no place in a constitutional democracy under the rule of law - and South Africa's children deserve better than a draft that risks exactly that. A curriculum that imposes ideology over truth fails every child it was meant to serve.

Paul Hoffman: “If a curriculum prescribes a single interpretation of history, it moves beyond education and into something the law cannot easily justify.” #Education #SouthAfrica #RuleOfLaw Read here: dailyfriend.co.za/2026/05/06/is-…

Economic upturn in SA is linked to summoning + actioning the political will to reform the anti-corruption capacity of the state, says @PaulHoffmanSC. It'll then be possible to persuade hesitant investors that the country has turned the corner on respect for the rule of law. The main reform required by the highest court of the land is the creation of a single body of trained anti-corruption experts - independent in structure and operations, guaranteed in resources, and secure in tenure. A scenario in which economic prosperity thrives in SA is distinctly possible, if the political will to effect the above reform is summoned. Full article here: accountabilitynow.org.za/how-to-get-the…

Success in the anti-corruption reform process is a necessary precursor to the economic turn-around that a prosperous and secure future for SA needs. The long-awaited new investments for which the president, and all who wish SA well, long will begin to flow. #SouthAfrica

When the National Commissioner of SAPS is served with a warrant to appear for his role in awarding and approving a scandalous R360 million tender - you're in trouble. When he's the THIRD SA police chief to face a criminal investigation while in office - you're in DEEP trouble.

The rot in the upper echelons of SAPS is widespread and deep according to the views of those who study it. There is precedent for a “decapitation” move - one that involves a termination of the services of all the (far too many) generals in SAPS, says @PaulHoffmanSC. Given that both the Madlanga Commission and the parliamentary ad hoc committee have yet to report to the executive and legislature respectively, it may be ill-advised to appoint an acting chief of police in the current circumstances.
