That's the point I'm trying to make.

Or changing their gender identities for fanfics. It comes off as distasteful and transphobic even if that's not the intention.

Fanfics let people ignore canon and just make what they want.

At that point they can just correct people, but they don't. Still referred to with the same pronouns in the aforementioned true pacifist Flowey scene.
