Having a rough week that is partially manifesting as bad insomnia. A friend in an earlier time zone keeps sending me a google hangouts invite from midnight - 3am my time. She stretches, snacks and does her evening routine while I hang out, browse the internet, be with my thoughts. It’s such a sweet and simple form of care that I wanted to share it on here in case anyone wants to steal it.

@tasornp I have felt like you. And, not only with colleagues. But, you will find out all the effort has been worth it when in a couple of years, some people have not done anything different and you are pretty much in a different world.

I don’t fit in at work anymore. I’ve started growing apart from colleagues I used to be close with. Now, my priority is finishing work on time. So I can focus on my health and build my business after hours. I don’t hang out like I used to. And people have started questioning how I do things. But that’s what happens when you start leveling up. You have to trust your path. Even when no one around you gets it.

Monday Musings: Why It’s Important to Identify Your Money Values A friend of mine is constantly struggling to attain her financial goals. One of her goals last year was to save $7k every month. It was, quite frankly, very doable considering (1) she makes about $20k a month, and (2) her husband is a corporate high-flier. However, she only met her goal 5 out of 12 times. Her lack of success boiled down to one main factor — her financial goals and her money values were not aligned. You see, there were months when she just had to splurge on luxury goods. Her reason: “I work so hard, so I should reward myself.” This obviously conflicted with her saving plan. On the one hand, she wanted to save more money for retirement. On the other hand, she wasn’t willing to sacrifice today for a better tomorrow. Her goal required her to practise delayed gratification, BUT her true self placed a higher value on immediate gratification. They were totally out of sync! ➡️ A value is your judgement of what’s important in life, while a goal is your aim or aspiration. ➡️ You strive for your goals, but you live your values. ➡️ Your goals might change from time to time, but your values, though aren’t cast in stone, are pretty fixed. ➡️ Your values, not your goals, set the direction of your life. They are your COMPASS. Without a set of meaningful values, there is no sense of self, so how is it possible to know what your true goals are? Therefore, the first step towards financial success is to identify your money values. Once you’ve a clear understanding of your money values, you can then set financial goals that align with them. Most companies stipulate their core values clearly. So do schools, charities, government organs. Why not individuals like you and me? Happy Monday! 🌈

Anyone here knows an effective and sustainable way of making To-do lists that works ? Have tried apps like onenote, notion etc and worked only for a couple of days. Diary is inconvenient since can't carry everywhere.

Society expects you to spend an hour commuting to a job, where you spend your time putting up with office politics And hope you get that raise you've deserved for over a year. But society lives in your head. Society is a construct we are lead to believe will give us a fulfilling life. A life that will "make our parents proud". But there has to be more to life than the communal coffee pot and casual fridays. There has to be. And there is. You see people living the life you want. That should excite you, because it means it's possible. You have to be willing to destroy what you believe to be true and begin the search. The search for answers. They are here on the internet for free. The future of education is right in front of you. That overpriced degree hanging on your wall will mean nothing in the digital economy. Trust me. I know. I have my very own $140k piece of paper stuffed in a box somewhere. Save up some money while learning a new skill and meeting new people online. When you know you are ready (not when you feel ready) take a step off the beaten path and explore a new landscape. Casual fridays and that shitty coffee machine will always be there. John and his hawaiian shirts will be there. Jen at the front desk will be there. You can always come back to your job later. But just maybe, if you trust in yourself, you can forge a new path. You can create the life you've always dreamed of. It's closer than you think.
