In a group chat where multiple (intelligent) people didn’t get this cover. So while the rest of you are worried about the decline in reading, I’m more concerned over an apparent drop-off in film literacy.

On this Day - 1940, U-99 under Captain Otto Kretschmer, sank the British armed merchant cruiser HMS Laurentic, off the Irish coast. Laurentic, an 18,000 ton former passenger liner, had been converted in the autumn of 1939 and armed with deck guns, depth charges and AA. #OTD

Vanguard WWII by Cadet - bringing history to life!
He died for England, 17 August 1940 🇺🇸 The previous day, the Luftwaffe had once more launched multiple attacks on southern England, hitting airfields and the Chain Home radar station at Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. During the attack on RAF Tangmere, American volunteer Pilot Officer William Fiske of No. 601 Squadron saw his Hurricane fighter hit and a fire broke out in the cockpit. He crash landed at Tangmere and was brought out of the plane alive, but died the next day from surgical shock. 1/7

@LordAshcroft @Daily_Express About time, thank you. My Uncle, 18, ground crew is buried near Tangmere. The Pilots deserve their recognition but so do the men and women that kept them flying. Dangerous work.

Presumably the qualifying age to stand for parliament will also be reduced to 16? What could possibly go wrong?

Hey @marksandspencer I commiserate with your cyber incident but why are almost all men’s clothes in store for Small or XL? Are these the only people that shop with you now. Have the M and L crowd moved on? Very frustrating, poor logistics.

More than eighty years ago, Allied forces launched a grueling campaign to break through the Gustav line—a fortified German defense stretching across Italy. At its heart stood Monte Cassino. For months, American and Allied troops faced fierce resistance in brutal conditions. Their courage and determination helped pave the way to Rome, a major victory for the Allies. Today, the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery commemorates more than 7,800 Americans—many of whom gave their lives in this campaign. On this anniversary, we honor their memory, their valor, and their sacrifice.

Each mug is uniquely adorned with intricate patterns, ranging from spiral motifs and geometric shapes to carefully executed circles and lines. Such designs weren't merely decorative—they often carried symbolic meanings or reflected the natural environment of the island, including waves, flora, and fauna.
