@JoshuaOgundu I love watching Grand Designs, and there's older episodes of really unique ways of building houses. My guess, like taxi / space, local zoning/ permits/ etc are hindering a lot of growth and momentum. In any given city there could be multiple zoning req, complicating things

If you haven't heard from me:
- For the last five years, I served as a Sr Director of Engineering for Core Infra at Google, setting technical strategy and leading teams across Web, iOS, Android, Multiplatform, Experimentation, and O11y.
- I also led the Search Mission, modernizing our systems across the entire SDLC to innovate for the AI wave.
- Along the way, I did a stint as Core Reliability Lead (read: the designated fire extinguisher if internal infra went down)
I haven't talked about these in detail because a lot of it is under NDA *whispers: I’m full of secrets 🐝*
Recently, I returned to the IC track as a Distinguished Engineer in Chrome.
- I’m serving as the Area Tech Lead (ATL) for AI and the Web Ecosystem. In short, I get to look across a massive horizon, focusing on how we secure the web in this new era while continuing to push the envelope of innovation.
I also have 3 cute kids and 3 cute dogs. It’s like Noah’s Ark with an off-by-one error. 🐶
I still build things to blow off steam after hours. Sometimes that means getting lost in Minecraft or Valheim; other times, I’m drawing complex technical concepts, writing, or hacking away on side projects.
People often mistake my hobby work for my day job, or limit what I do to what is in public (like my deep dive into SVGs back when I was working for distributed backend companies), but it's not my main work it's how I play, learn, and contribute to the community.

I sometimes reject the auto complete suggestions when I’m typing a sentence. Even if it was what I was planning to type 😂
Or if I’m torn on how to finish the sentence and there is a suggestion, I know I’m NOT going to do that one.
It’s a small thing but I hate the idea of my messages being whatever is most common.

Whoever told you paying attention to local politics is for libs is a huge massive loser. Getting involved in local politics is the only alternative to loss of life if you actually believe in democracy. It’s the most leftist form of action a person can take right now unless you personally think violence is okay.
I think if we can maintain a free unbiased press of principled individuals everyone respects, democracy works just fine. Ours is broken. Local politics control can change things rapidly in a matter of months or a year or two years. We can just fix it.
All we had to do was protect universally beloved journalists that most of us trust and give them a platform and lots of money. We fucked up when journalists started selling the power WE gave them. That should be treason.
We need to maintain a free press because that’s where conversations start and happen. A place for free and open conversations of a factual nature that can be traced back and referenced to research and facts everyone trusts. Usually those facts come from schools. Billionaires got weird about schools too. Who knows how much damage they’ve actually done to democracy to be able to buy power. It makes me mad.
Billionaires bad. No billionaires allowed. Nobody needs a billion dollars and nobody should be able to earn the “right” to buy a country. Miss me with that dishonest bullshit.

@engineering_bae Well, if we were serious, we could attempt to "ruin it" for them. In a lot of contracts the city owns the data, and flock gets use of it, but since it's city data, you could foil and release the raw data. Develop open source tools etc. Maybe a bad idea but still...

If this surveillance becomes more prevalent, I’m going to lean back into dumb phones, wired headphones, navigating by either a downloaded or paper maps, and anything else that makes me even slightly less tracked.
I hate this mess.

If you thought Flock license plate readers were bad, this is next-level surveillance state territory. A defense contractor called Leonardo is rolling out a system called SignalTrace. It bolts sensors onto the license plate readers already mounted across America, the same Flock-style cameras on poles, overpasses, and police cars. It doesn’t just read your plate. It vacuums up the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and wireless signals from every smart device in your car. Your phone, your AirPods, your smartwatch, your fitness tracker, your tire pressure sensors, your key fobs. All of it. Those unique device IDs get tied straight to your license plate. Once they’ve made the link, they can track you without ever scanning your plate again. It even flags who’s riding with you. A friend hops in once and their devices get logged to your file. This is being sold to law enforcement, military, and intelligence agencies. It turns roadside cameras into people-tracking nodes that build a persistent “electronic fingerprint” of every driver and passenger who rolls past. There’s no federal law covering it. No opt-out. No warrant required. The surveillance state isn’t coming. It’s already bolted to the street.

@poe_collector I loved this. Def tried to make a few in the early 2000s. The complexity behind RPGs is astounding, and despite tying together battles, dungeons, events, inventory, and levels + stats, imo the hardest parts is of a good RPG are the most human: storyline and music.
