It wasn't cash. It was a challenge coin. Challenge coins are shared by military units, leaders, police departments etc. They are shared via a handshake palm to palm. I am a veteran, I have many such coins. While usually shared for doing a good job- they are also shared as collectibles. They have been around for a very long time. Nothing newsworthy by that exchange. I used challenge coins at the companies I led as CEO. Example pictured of 4 coins. When employees collected a set they got a day off and a cash incentive.
