@ChrisWarner__ It was definitely interesting to see the perspective of this Korean-American girl that grew up in the US but feels trapped by her family's old traditions and values #XUengl20510

In the short story "A Bigger Tent", Goo writes about a girl figuring out her relationship with her family. This story important because it sheds a light on the everyday lives of teenagers, especially someone with a Korean background, and what family means to them. #XUengl20510

@marie_altenau Definitely agree. I wasn't sure the story would show the perspective of the cousin, but it was nice to end up seeing both sides #XUengl20510

In Oreo, I think this was a great short story teaching people about how we have to look at both sides of a story instead of only listening to one side. #XUengl20510

"A Bigger Tent" did a very good job of telling a #OwnVoices story with a very regular situation. The events in the story could happen to anyone, but we got to see how it would happen particularly from this Korean family #XUengl20510
English

The story, "Oreo," was a really interesting #OwnVoices story as it showed two different perspectives from people of the same background. Diversity within characters of the same background is important, so it was nice to see that in a single story #XUengl20510

@GRSteven1 I like how you said that they can be heroes to themselves. Getting to see heroes who look like you in the media could absolutely make you feel like you could be a hero as well #XUengl20510
English

Marginalized heroes are important for representation. They give others who may be going through tough times a reason to be positive and be strong, while also showing that they can be a hero to themselves but also others. #XUengl20510

@TamiaXavierU One of the biggest thing the world could use these days is empathy, so I definitely agree everyone could try harder to understand perspectives different from their own #XUengl20510
English

When diverse characters are presented more in literature or any media it helps us all have a better understanding of someone else. We all gain a sense of understanding and commonalities. #XUengl20510
English

@marie_altenau Definitely agree that it's important for majority groups to see marginalized people as the heroes as a way of making them think that there needs to be more #XUengl20510
English

I think showing other people that marginalized people can be the hero in the story makes people realize that they need to be portrayed as the heroes in more stories. It also makes marginalized people feel important in society and literature #XUengl20510
English

It's important for people in marginalized groups to be heroes in stories so that they have people to look up to and relate to. They can see these heroes as a role mode, which can be invaluable in life. #XUengl20510

@TessaRMcLaughl1 The rules in the book definitely seemed to cloud Will's judgement. Even though you understand him wanting to follow the rules he was taught, every person in the elevator makes it seem like he shouldn't #XUengl20510
English

#XUengl20510 I wish I could have more intel about what happens. But I think there’s a significant to that because it’s hard to make it out of the rules that have been there for so long.

@MeghanJ2025 I would definitely agree that Will was shown to be a little inexperienced here. It's up to debate if the ghosts were real, but my interpretation was that Will imagined them to talk himself out of killing Riggs #XUengl20510
English

I'm not sure how I feel about the ending. Even though the ambiguous ending definitely made it seem like Will wouldn't go through with killing Riggs, I think the lesson of the book may be more clear if we found out what Will would do #XUengl20510

@GRSteven1 Totally agree. The watercolor style of the images has such a unique and wonderful way of expressing the tone and emotion of each scene in the book #XUengl20510
English

This type of graphic novel really does a great job of expressing and offering an additional layer of emotion. The style mixed with the watercolor can really exaggerate the emotions the author is trying to explain, I really enjoyed seeing the messy art show intensity. #XUengl20510
English

@willeminr I'm not sure about Dani, but Buck definitely seems like an important role model for Will and Shawn, so it makes sense that this is the first ghost Will sees #XUengl20510
English

I wonder why Jason Reynolds decided to show these two character to Will first?

Although the images and words the story work very well together, I personally think that the story was a bit image-heavy and probably could've used some more words #XUengl20510
English

@StudAlexWelch Whenever there's some kind of supernatural element to a story, that just adds an entire new layer, so I'm definitely interested to see how that factors into the story #XUengl20510

It'll be interesting to see how ghosts of the past, present, and possible future will play into Long Way Down. It was a major plot in a Christmas Carol, so I'm intrigued into how it'll play into a more darker, more modern setting. #XUengl20510

English

@MeghanJ2025 Definitely intrigued to see how Will goes through so much in this short span of time #XUengl20510
English

After reading some interviews from Reynolds, I'm definitely super interested to see how this short time span of a single elevator ride plays into the plot of the book. #XUengl20510

@Ashleynking36 Completely agree. I like that Clara acknowledged that a part of her is like her mom but ultimately decided she wanted more like a version of herself that Hamlet, Rose, and her dad brought out of her. #XUengl20510
English

I’m glad that the whole spontaneous adventure to Tulum brought some closure for Clara and helped her realize who the most important people are in her life. #XUengl20510
