WS/FCS UPDATE: Last month, I called on the State Board of Education to take action and make a finding of management failures at Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools. Today, the State Board voted unanimously to make that finding, which will trigger an independent review of internal control procedures at WS/FCS. This accountability measure will bring another layer of statewide oversight to a massive budget deficit impacting one of North Carolina’s largest school districts.

The fourth-largest school district in North Carolina, Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, accumulated $46 million in debt over seven years. Our Special Report exposed this gross misfeasance, and it's why I called on the State Board of Education – which is meeting over the next two days – to make a finding of management failures at WS/FCS. In a blow to transparency, the State Board didn’t even include this item on its public agenda. If the State Board does not take action, it will be failing the parents, students, and taxpayers who expect accountability from their government.

@Mrterrazzo @TheSalonDon Mini splits are great, until they’re not, like in our office building which has 6 suites. All 6 got fried from power surges. Now all of them have to be replaced. Not cheap.

@TheSalonDon I found a local outfit that is great but I agree, the big HVAC companies are hard to pin down and rely on.

@candychand11 No I’m not saying that at all. Reporting criminal activity is required. I’m saying a strong Eng Ltr will protect the accountant from liability for not finding fraud, defalcation, etc. It’s standard practice for accountants to not include that in the scope.
