During production, the filmmakers secretly restructured the entire story mid-development because the early version felt too serious and Shakespearean.
Scar was originally written as a far more quiet, calculating villain, almost emotionless.
It was Jeremy Irons’ sharp, theatrical voice that completely reshaped the character, pushing the animators to exaggerate Scar’s elegance, sarcasm, and cruelty after recording began.
In other words, Scar didn’t just get animated, he was redesigned around the actor, which was rare at the time and helped define how Disney would later build characters directly from voice performances.
