"With a lot of the other publicly available generated AI technologies, with one of them in particular, it was actually taking meeting minutes from a city council meeting in New South Wales, Australia, whereas when you can do that in house, that becomes far less of an issue." - Richie Shakespeare
Publicly available #generativeAI technologies can produce hallucinations and misinformation when scraping data from anywhere. Testing retrieval models for analysing Dublin City Council meeting minutes using publicly available #GenAI revealed shocking error. Testing specific councillor questions, one system insisted the answer was correct despite being completely wrong. After investigation, it was discovered that it was actually taking meeting minutes from a city council meeting in New South Wales Australia!

On #ADAPTRadio, Khizer Ahmed Biyabani outlines the four core pillars behind local government Generative AI Lab.
The approach starts with governance and responsible AI use, creating a safe, transparent, and ethical space for staff, supported by newly released interim guidance. The second pillar focuses on AI education and training, upskilling staff on the basics of AI, a requirement under EU AI Act Article 4. This is followed by proofs of concept, and finally scaling successful use cases to enterprise level, with all pillars operating interdependently.

"What makes unique about this partnership between Dublin City Council and ADAPT is that ADAPT is leading research centre in artificial intelligence and human computer interaction, bringing technical academic expertise and bringing that with public services enhances the work."
- Khizer Ahmed Biyabani
Ireland's first local government generative AI Lab represents a unique partnership between Dublin City Council and the ADAPT Centre at Trinity College Dublin. The Lab aims to translate academic research into practical ethical AI tools for public services initially focusing internally on pain points that could be addressed with artificial intelligence help rather than public facing applications at moment though not completely ruled out for future once solid learnings secured.

Artificial intelligence: are we heading for a dystopic future, or one in which a labour force is relieved from menial tasks?
Machine learning is second-guessing us; is this making our lives easier, or is it intrusive? Corporates are hoovering up content to train large language models in ways that are hard for users to control. But there is no doubt that AI, and related tools, are pushing back the boundaries of research.
Join ADAPT Director Prof. John Kelleher, Jane Ohlmeyer (@tcddublin) , and Béla Mihalikis (Ideas Science) as they discuss on recent CORDIScovery podcast "Pushing back the boundaries of research with AI".
