#Dhurandhar2 This is not a review, but a heartfelt acknowledgment of aspects of both films that will stay with me for long. #Dhurandhar Franchise redefined (and elevated) hero's masculinity In Part 2, there is this touching dialogue of Ajay Sanyal (@ActorMadhavan ) going like "Hum Mard hai Jaskirat". The striking fact about the dialogue is its lack of bravado and induced macho-ness. The dialogue is delivered with, if I can say, the acknowledgement of a father and empathy of a mother. The patriotism is not coached in with only emotion. It is planted with the sense of truth, necessity and the grimness of the inevitable. Jaskirat/Hamza (@RanveerOfficial ) goes on to the field with his own sense of duty and ethics (what made him avenge his sister but not harm the goons' women) elevated by the detachment that Ajay Sanyal preached. And this stays with the character throughout. While blending and playing in with the enemy, Hamza finds those gaps to plant conscience - Once with Rahman ( in part 1) to not betray his own tribe. Rahman hits back with an answer (Yeh qom ne kya diya mujhe, I lost my son, etc, etc) somewhat similar to what Jaskirat would have told Ajay Sanyal in their first meeting. Hamza decides Rahman Baloch does not have it in him to see beyond himself and lets the destruction play by itself, doing his original work. Second time (in part 2), with Jameel and Khanani about the killing of innocent Balochi youth. Both times, his tone carries the same sense of detachment of pointing out the wrong thing, but not pushing beyond because transforming the enemy is not what he has come for. His own persona throughout both the movies carries the detachment and discernment all along. Valour and covert manipulation showing up just when required. He knows when the blend into the background and when to stand out, when to empathize, when to oppose, when to bear the brunt and when to strike the death blow. His treatment of women is just exemplary. In the middle of all the gore, barbarism and horror, women around him are safe, whether they are the wives, sisters of those who raped his sister, or a wife of his employer (enemy) who slaps him or his own wife who points a gun at him. May be unrealistic at places but ideal for sure! This Hero is so close to the epic hero of our civilization. Full marks to Ranveer Singh's delivery. His eyes have magic. The other point that sticks to me involves a spoiler or two. So will write about that a couple of weeks later (maybe after a rewatch). All in all, thank you and wonderful job @AdityaDharFilms and team.
