A Tantra Middle Way Madhyamāpratipada is what is commonly called the Middle Way in English. It is Shakyamuni Buddha's rejection of extreme asceticism and sensual indulgence (Hedonism) to acheive enlightenment. This is because extreme asceticism may deny the illusions that breeds attachment. But often the heavy discomfort of such is distracting in itself and people become attached to the ascetic practices. Of course extreme hedonism speaks for itself as it only alleviates suffering on the surface and does little for anyone spiritually and causes much more attachment and longing. Thereby the Shakyamuni Buddha's Dharma addresses issues of existence and personal identity by avoiding eternalism /absolutism as well as the life denying of annihilationism and nihilism. However, there is a form of Tantric approach which synthesizes these extremes. This approach is to create liberation and detachment in liminality. Be full hearted, full in, committed, expressive, and experienced* in all extremes while, understanding them all to awaken to the impermanence of them. Be extreme in all things and thereby balanced in all. This becomes a different Middle way that is a form of Upāya (Skillful means) aiding towards enlightenment. Be not a Brahmin (high Orthodoxy priest). Be not a Kṣatriya (Warrior / King). Be not a Sadhu Aghori (extreme Ascetic). Instead be all of them at once. Hammer and Vajra! * of course while Tantra does practice some taboo breaking , often these are symbolic and still maintain the pañcaśīla / Five Precepts in principle. Some will disagree with my take here but that's the nature of life. 🙏🏼 🔥 📿
