That's why he's started using a 3-5-2 formation in training. Three defenders. Giuliano Simeone and Nico González as center-backs. Enzo, De Paul, and McAllister in midfield. And ahead of them, Messi and Álvarez. But what's truly intriguing isn't the formation itself... it's that this formation explains almost all of Scaloni's choices that people were puzzled by. Scaloni built the system first... then chose the players who fit it. And that's the most dangerous thing. Because here you have a coach who doesn't think about names. He thinks about the system. And in my opinion, if the 3-5-2 formation works as the national team is currently training... then we might see a completely different version of Argentina at the World Cup. A more aggressive version. And faster in transitions. And better at protecting its weaknesses.
