@ktkelly14 STW14 Inquiry involves tapping into and acknowledging student knowledge on the subject presented. Teachers should use what students know and take that opportunity to expand on that background knowledge. By doing this, students will be more motivated to learn #EDU331

@ktkelly14 STW13 Active literacy in any subject area leads to deeper understanding and diverse, flexible learning. With subjects like social studies and science, it is important for students to discover and ask questions rather than learn through textbooks #EDU331

@ktkelly14 CTW10 Think-Writes are a powerful way for students to focus and clarify meaning in a short time. What is helpful about these is that it gives the most able students time to write as much as possible and struggling students enough time to come up with answers #EDU331

@ktkelly14 CTW6 Prefixes were something that were not really explained to me when I was younger. However, just knowing the 4 prefixes “un,” “re,” “in,” and “dis” helps students figure out the meaning of over 1,500 words. This shows how important it is to teach these #EDU331

I am wondering how to promote authentic reading time without being too reliant on technology-based apps like Raz Kids. For students who speed through books on Raz Kids, how can we be sure they are learning authentically and comprehending their reading? #preservicelit #EDU331

I never knew I loved poetry until I was really introduced to it in 11th grade. Reading Emily Dickinson showed me the true beauty of poetry. For my students, poetry should not be limited to April, and I want them to be exposed to a variety of types of poetry #preservicelit #EDU331

Even though I don't have my own classroom yet, I hope in the future to encourage students to do their own reading and writing in the midst of testing. Students should have time to read and write about what they enjoy even through mandatory testing time #preservicelit #EDU331

Through read alouds and think alouds, I like to get students talking during reading time and hear their thoughts on books and topics. In this way, my class can get talking and be engaged in their reading before heading off to independent reading time #preservicelit #EDU331

Mom: Are you really putting a @JudgeJudy quote on your grad cap? Me: Are you really asking me that question?

A4: Yesterday, I watched one of my students compose his own story the way he wanted it. He talked to me about what should come next. No prompt, just him. His story was all that he wanted it to be. I hope to create a classroom where this is the reality #preservicelit #EDU331

Loved hearing about this book, Delaney! Hearing about Ivan finding his own identity and who he is is so important for our students to understand. Books can help us teach so much about inclusivity and diversity! #preservicelit #EDU331

#edu331 #Preservicelit Q3 diversity and inclusivity are super important. This past week I did a book talk in @ktkelly14 classroom on The One and Only Ivan. This book was amazing and talked about inclusivity but also being an individual!

A2: Students need to have access to books that represent THEM, so I hope to create a library full of books from a variety of genres and interests. I also want them to open up a book, read about a character, and say, "hey! they're just like me!" #preservicelit #EDU331

A1: To privilege read alouds every day, I hope to create a classroom that looks forward to coming to the carpet and enjoying a book together. We need to make sure time is put aside every day to read a good book with our students! #preservicelit #EDU331
