I know the replies are making fun of 'another virus' but being from No. Arizona, I've known about hantavirus for many years. There are various strains. In AZ, it has a 38% mortality rate. Prevention: When cleaning up mice droppings/nests, wear gloves & mask and wet surfaces with a 10% bleach solution or disinfectant before cleaning. Today is International Bereaved Mother's Day. For my late son, Brendan Bjørn, who passed away 17 May 2022, age 17. His ashes sit on the fireplace mantle in front of me as I type this post. In life, we all love and lose, but I say there is no other love greater than a mother for her child, and there is no other loss greater than the loss of a child. "Do not judge the bereaved mother. She comes in many forms. She is breathing, but she is dying. She may look young, but inside she has become ancient. She smiles, but her heart sobs. I don’t think I’ll ever understand how the state failed Harvey so badly, and so many other children like him. Some days the grief, the anger, and the desperate need for answers become so overwhelming that I feel like giving up the fight for Justice.

I recently applied for a part-time job that I am well qualified for, but for which I haven't been selected. It's just the latest in a string of rejections spanning over two years. It no longer matters what graduate degrees or professional experiences I have to offer. Apparently, what matters is that I'm a 60 year old woman with chronic health conditions which limit the type of work and times I can work, and who has been out of the paid workforce since 2014 because of caring 24/7 for my now deceased eldest son who was profoundly disabled. I can fully comprehend not being able to compete with someone half my age in today's job market. I truly get it. I'm saying all of this only to highlight that trying to pick one's self up after so many years of full-time, nursing level (and lone parent) caring is seemingly impossible. I think there should be a national, government-led initiative to provide jobs for people in this cohort. It would result in less dependency on social services and NGO assistance. It would create more income tax revenue by increasing the workforce. It would help ease the mental health burden of people struggling in this situation. Simply telling someone to go to Intreo doesn't suffice. This needs to be a job service which looks at the situation of each individual's unique situation and the parameters of employment they need. Just food for thought. PS: the potential employer is, ironically, an NGO who focuses on services for the elderly and disabled. #carers #disability @TomClonan @ProfoundIreland @CarersIreland @DisabilityFed

@AddressingLife Sorry, I thought I was following you as you come across my feed every day. I generally enjoy your posts, but on this point of trying to find a job,I feel you’re not taking enough initiative. I believe a CE Scheme is an excellent place to get the experience of getting back to work
