THIS IS REALLY WEIRD AND INTERESTING AT THE SAME TIME First, let me mention that this is common to marsupials (mammals that raise their young in pouches). Female kangaroos have three vaginal openings and two uteruses. Let's label the vaginal openings left, right and middle. The left carries sperm to the left uterus, the right carries sperm to the right uterus. The middle is where the baby comes down from. The male can use either the right or the left for mating. Ọmọ! These lucky guys have options 🤣 Jollof rice today, fried rice tomorrow 😊 This means she can get pregnant in the right uterus or left uterus. She uses them interchangeably. Let's assume she mates for the first time today, she may get pregnant in the right uterus. After about 28 days, she gives birth to a very tiny one inch long baby (joey) which moves to the pouch for continuous development. The joey will develop in the pouch for about 6 months. Shebi e dey hurry to comot before. E spend just 28 days. 🤣🤣🤣 Now, for the first four months, it won't come out at all. After four month, it can start to come out, eat little grasses and go back into the pouch. It does this for another two months or thereabouts before leaving the pouch finally at around 6 months of age. Now, the mother would have mated all these while and the pregnancy (for Joey number 2) will be paused for the main time. As soon Joey number 1 is getting close to 6 months and would not be coming to the pouch again soon, the mother "presses play ▶️" on Joey number 2's pregnancy to continue development. He is born after 28 days and come into the pouch. In the pouch, there are four teats (like nipples in humans) for feeding the babies. Joey number 2 will hold onto one. Joey number 1 which is now six months old or thereabouts will still be coming to feed from the mother. Only that it won't enter the pouch. It will just dig its head in and suckle. You know what's wonderful? The nutrient composition of the milk joey 2 will be taking will be different from that of joey 1, even though they're coming from the same body. Each will get the formula that is appropriate for their age. Joey 2 can be taking NAN 1 and Joey 1 will be taking NAN 3, all at the same time. Meanwhile, joey 3 is already in the womb o. So, she's nourishing three separate siblings at the same time. Joey 1 which comes to suckle one in a while, Joey 2 which is in the pouch and Joey 3 in the uterus. Weird and amazing.
