Ethanol efficiently removed dirt, however, over working would lead to damage. Acetone was able to remove paint stains, but similarly would breakdown the original surface. Solvent applications were carefully monitored to produce the best visual results without causing damage.

🖌️🪛🔧🧰 Treatment Internal supports of acid free paper and tissue kept the shape of the boot during treatment. The flaking polyurethane of the boot shaft was stabilised using the adhesive Lascaux Acrylic 303 HV diluted in water.

These Go-go boots were made in 1969 by the Mantereen shoe factory in Orivesi, Finland. The shoes were mass produced and cut from a pre-produced pattern then machine stitched together. Treatment in the 🧵 . . . #conservationcontent #adelasadventures

A floor plan exercise from a pest management workshop at the Joseph Banks Society. Volunteers applied their knowledge from earlier in the session to draw pest traps in appropriate places, taking into account the displays, pest routes, costs and types of traps and pests.

Marquetry is a decorative technique that can be dated all the way back to ancient Egypt. It involves cutting and inlaying thin layers of different types of wood (veneer) and adhering them to form a pattern. I decided to make a double sided games board with backgammon and chess♟️

Oral histories collected by @NHSat70 and objects from the Museum of Medicine and Health were utilised. It was a pleasure managing every aspect of this exhibition, working alongside such lovely, hardworking and passionate people. @OfficialUoM @agms10

In 2021 we held a pop-up exhibition titled ‘The New Normal? Voices of Covid-19’. The exhibition reflected on how the pandemic effected social relationships, highlighted inequalities, and problems in the NHS, but also showed how people band together in times of need.

We’re looking at laser cleaning at Manchester Museum this #tTreatmentTuesday with @adelahawley ! "Lovely to learn about this fantastic technology with Martin Cooper from Lynton Lasers."

They have positively contributed to the preservation of the object and as such form a part of its story. Sharing the opinions and experiences of volunteers with the public adds a fresh perspective to the object. Visitors are now able to see the object in the entrance hall!

Volunteers had been tasked with conserving the 2m tall burner, which involved many hours of mechanical cleaning using Perspex sticks and brushes, their work was integral in unveiling the level of detail below layers of dirt and corrosion.

I was tasked with researching and developing the interpretation plan for the Japanese incense burner. An interpretation plan sets out strategies for telling the story of an object and informs all aspects of its display.
