The Great Pyramid of Giza is so old that when Cleopatra gazed at it, she probably muttered to herself, “Wow, this thing is ancient.” And she wasn’t wrong. By the time Cleopatra reigned in the 1st century BCE, the Great Pyramid was already over 2,500 years old. For context, that’s older than the distance in time between us and her. This means the Great Pyramid has been “ancient” for most of recorded history. It’s been around for so long that it’s witnessed the rise and fall of empires, survived invasions, sandstorms, and probably a few puzzled camels. In fact, if the pyramid could talk, it would likely say, “Kids these days with their short lifespans.” So, next time you think your grandparents’ stories go way back, just remember: the Great Pyramid was already old news when Cleopatra was sipping her date wine and Julius Caesar was pondering world domination.
