@a7las1984 @claystaggs I don’t know about the “no benefits.” We don’t have enough long term studies for side effects regarding losing vanity weight, as everyone is using them for. I’m not saying there will be side effects, but the concern is real. And there might be benefits for abstention.

@bendreyfuss You all keep talking on one hand about the great wealth transfer and on the other about how expensive elder care is. It can’t be both. Most millennials won’t see a dime of their parents’ money because it will all go to assisted living facilities.

Over the next few decades as baby boomers die off, millennials will be the recipients of the largest wealth transfer in history. This will not be evenly distributed but it will happen. It will have fascinating ripple effects. Point is: save your worries for the other generations

I feel so disgusted with the generational vibe that told us that having kids wasn’t a priority and that being a mom was kind of a lesser path. Dealing right now with someone close to me who completely missed the life she should have had, which would have made her very happy— as a mom of a bunch of kids. She believed the social justice messages and made other choices. Materialistic superficial choices btw. She’s traveled extensively and has fancy appliances and a nice (huge, empty) house — and a bunch of social justice bona fides. She was misled. This isn’t someone who was always a bit salty and never wanted kids. She wanted them, but it seemed lame and selfish and not as important as her SJW pursuits. (Which amounted to what? Nothing. The whole thing was a vibe.) I have the same life advice.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip Now who is twisting things? He’s not responsible for my happiness or anything else in my life. I am. As an independent, successful woman, I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself and keeping myself happy. He supports me in that, but it’s not his job.

@AdrianAnnMiller @larissaphillip Yep, exactly. If you weren't happy, you'd leave. Therefore, he has to make you happy. You aren't responsible for your own happiness, because if you were, you wouldn't leave, you'd change.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip I’m not walking it back. I’ve been with my husband for 21 years. I don’t need to stay with him if we didn’t have a happy marriage. I own a law firm. He knows I’m with him bc I love him and want to be with him. If we weren’t happy, I’d leave.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip Why do you think it’s “competing?” You can support each other without competition. And the studies are pretty clear on this topic. This has been fun, but I’ve got stuff to do.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip My definition of “fight” and yours are different. We debate. I’m a lawyer. He’s a software engineer with a degree in cell biology and neuroscience. We constantly discuss and debate topics, which we jokingly refer to as fighting. You probably wouldn’t understand.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip And that’s where we differ. I don’t believe men have the deciding vote in anyrhing just bc they have a penis. And if I did believe that, it would be fundamentally opposed to my belief that men and women are equal. You can’t be equal to someone with a deciding vote over you.

@AdrianAnnMiller @larissaphillip Nope, I don't believe men are better and smarter than women. I do believe they are equals, whom God gave the deciding vote when we can't agree. I also believe that we serve one another in different ways. We are different, we have different skills and different needs.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip I’m married to a man. Who has no problem seeing me as an equal. And nobody is advocating women above men. It just turns out when the field is equal, that women are actually better academically than men at a lot of things. And that hurts people like you to acknowledge.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip No it’s not. Girls wanting equality is not “promoting them” above boys. For most of our history, boys have been promoted above girls. Now that the field is equal, boys can’t handle it. Because their fragile male egos are hurt. They need to grow some balls and deal with it.

@AdrianAnnMiller @larissaphillip You do realize those are two sides of the same coin, right? When you promote girls above boys, you destroy the boys. When you tell the girls they are smarter than boys, the boys absorb that lesson and quit trying, which in turn necessitates the girls taking care of themselves.

@AdrianAnnMiller @larissaphillip You do realize, of course, that there has been a concerted effort for the last 35 years or so to promote girls above boys, to tell the boys they aren't needed or wanted or intelligent in the schools? If the boys are duds, the schools did it to them.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip Yes. Because women want an education and know that if they can’t find a decent men, then they need to make it on their own. Good for them. That doesn’t mean they don’t want to get married. Or have kids. They’re just looking out for themselves, which you should applaud.

@PeeveyThirza @larissaphillip And you wonder why women are not getting married when they want to? It’s because men suck. There are so many women out there who want to get married and have kids, but the men are all duds (as you acknowledge.) Maybe you should focus on the men here instead of pressuring women.

Meantime, boys have gotten so beaten down that many are foregoing college for a life long career in fast food or Uber. If girls are going to college to find a mate, that mate is likely going to be female.

@larissaphillip Well the difference between me and you, even if we did have different experiences, is that I’m not using my experience to pressure women to choose one way or another.

In my experience there was, from early childhood. My mother, like many women of that era, was reacting to her own upbringing in which she was pressured to marry and have kids. She went in the opposite direction. I’m tired of talking to you because it’s annoying how you keep resorting to accusing me of lying instead of engaging in this actually very intense and meaningful issue that has regional and cultural and generational differences. Assuming your experience is the only one is a terrible strategy and makes for a tiresome interlocutor.

You know how many of my law school classmates found their husbands at law school? Successful men want intelligent wives. That includes women who alter choose to be SAHMs

@AdrianAnnMiller @larissaphillip You are talking to a former teacher who was literally ORDERED to tell kids that all of them must go to college, boys and girls. How do you pay off that degree without working? Yes, we did pressure girls to be girl bosses, and that was one of the reasons I left.
