Today is my "diaversary"- it was on this day in 1997 (also a Friday) that a GP appointment revealed very high blood sugar, which a short while later was recognised as Type 1 Diabetes. It's very different from Type 2, so here's a suitable diaversary message which I saw on FB today

What a delight to welcome former students from my first year in teaching - 44 years ago - to a @KGSOKA reunion in their old school today. As always, years melt away and their affection is palpable for a school that was very different back then, yet in all important ways the same.

But the definition of old is now very debatable (says he on day after 68th birthday)

We offer to all but not all want it or can use it. Problems include who monitors the BG if the patient is unable? Work needs to be done and is being done with Nursing Homes, District Nurses etc No bias here just struggles with barriers Onward!

The lowest uptake of #CGM in those living with #T1Diabetes is in the age group >75 A huge drop off from other age groups Please consider why that maybe the case. It’s not just about “reluctance to use tech” It’s also our assumptions about this age group Thank you #gbdoc

Just watched @sewingbee final: like its precursor @BritishBakeOff, it portrays a Britain which is diverse, inclusive, tolerant, creative & KIND. A stark contrast to the prevalent anger, intolerance and narrow-minded flag-waving. Is it just that kind, tolerant people keep quiet?

It was on this day 10 years ago that I was accompanied to work at @KirkhamGrammar by a film crew to make a short film showing how @FreeStyleDiabet made such a difference on busy days like A-Level Results Day. It's aged well, and Libre did indeed prove to be a game changer. #GBDoc
