FDA has cleared Bunkerhill AAQ, the first AI algorithm to automatically measure abdominal aortic diameter on CT scans with or without contrast. Developed at Stanford by Dr. @DrAalami and Adrit Rao. 🔗 Read the story: bunkerhillhealth.com/resources/fda-…

You know when you have moments where you think, "There has got to be a better way" Well, this is how it all started....with frustration around missed abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) diagnoses, late diagnoses, poor follow up and non-standardized approaches to measuring and following AAAs. Most AAAs are found incidentally as they are otherwise "silent" until they rupture. There are 30 million CT scans done in the US of the abdomen and pelvis every year. No AAA should be missed when such opportunistic AI algorithms are put into place to review every CT scan. Also, now health systems and hospitals can much more easily create AAA registries and track AAA size changes over time in a standardized fashion. More to come in this!! 🚀 Thank you @AdritRao, @Dr_ASChaudhari , @loublanks and @joinBunkerhill team for helping to give this algorithm the "medical grade" stamp of approval. This could not have been possible without the Comp2Comp platform from @StanfordMed @StanfordAIMI group's open-source Python package designed for rapid and automated body composition analysis of CT scans. All open-source 🚀

We are strengthening connections across the Atlantic! Our group was invited to give a keynote and host a workshop at the Digital Health Innovation Forum #DHIF2025 in Potsdam, Germany last week and it was a full house! We showcased our team’s research, translation, and educational work in mobile and digital health and held a fully booked digital health design workshop together with patient and clinician advocates. Thank you @arieldora, @mikrowie and the @HPI_DE Digital Health Cluster (Pauline Gieseler, Linea Schmidt, @LarsMasanneck) for hosting and creating an incredibly engaging conference! A huge shoutout and thank you to Jasmin Mir and Nadja Birkenbach-von Kuzenko for sharing your stories and centering our workshop around the patient experience and to Lars Masanneck and Anne Sophie Kubasch for bringing your clinical expertise. Excited to keep scaling access to care together 🚀 cc: @DrAalami, @vishnuravi, @PSchmiedmayer, @AZahedivash, @AdritRao Photos: Reinhardt/Sommer

This past week, students in the Digital Health Implementation track at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden got an in-person crash course from our teaching team 🚀 - @DrAalami unveiled the unique challenges and considerations specific to developing digital solutions for healthcare. - @vishnuravi presented healthcare data standards and interoperability frameworks that promote information exchange across healthcare systems. - @AZahedivash discussed best practices for data privacy and security when working with protected health information. - @AdritRao guided students through resources for learning the fundamentals of iOS development and principles of accessible user interface design. - @PSchmiedmayer explored software engineering best practices, agile methodologies, and demonstrated the @StanfordSpezi framework. Next week, students will begin applying these concepts in their own projects. We look forward to guiding them alongside their instructors and mentors through their development process. A huge thank you to Torbjörn Lundh, Peter Kelly, Stefan Candefjord and team for making this collaboration possible. We can't wait to see what the students build and look forward to our next visit to Sweden!

We were honored to help kick off a new Digital Health Implementation course in collaboration with Chalmers University of Technology and Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. This course is based on our flagship CS342 Building for Digital Health course at Stanford. The students brought remarkable energy, enthusiasm, and diverse skillsets that truly inspired us. Our team looks forward to guiding them as they develop innovative digital health solutions over the next two months! @DrAalami @vishnuravi @PSchmiedmayer @AZahedivash @AdritRao

🥼 Our clinical user-study with @StanfordRad residents showed that 30 min IMIL interactions on just 20 training samples yielded improvements in accuracy, confidence calibration, and clinical relevance of heat-maps over SOA modern augmentations (CutMix, MixUp, and CutOut). 4/5

I am excited to share our #CVPR2024 DEF-MIA paper on the Interactive Medical Image Learning Framework (IMIL) 🩻! We showed that IMIL could effectively use clinician feedback on just 4% of the dataset to yield a 4.2% improvement in accuracy! 🚀 🧵 below arxiv.org/abs/2404.10965
