This Mother’s Day week, Carroll Crater reminds us that legacies can reach all the way to the Moon. 🌙 During the historic Artemis II mission, our astronauts named a bright lunar crater “Carroll” in honor of Commander Reid Wiseman’s late wife, Carroll Taylor Wiseman. A mother, nurse, and beloved part of the Artemis family. It is a our honor to share with you the pictures our engineers have gathered from CAPSTONE as it went by the crater. It really stands out! This reminds us that behind every mission are the people we love, the people who support us, and the people we carry with us. Advanced Space is making major strides on AFRL’s Oracle-Prime mission 🚀 As the prime contractor for the mission, Advanced Space is developing a next-generation satellite designed to detect, track, and maintain awareness of objects in cislunar space, the complex region between Earth and the Moon. 🌎🌕 Following a successful Preliminary Design Review in December with partners Terran Orbital and Quantum Space, Oracle-Prime is on track for delivery in 2027. Advanced Space is working towards stronger planetary defense with a new rapid-response mission concept. ☄️ A recent feasibility study shows spacecraft can be designed, launched, and deployed within weeks to months to perform fast flyby reconnaissance of potentially hazardous Near-Earth Objects (NEOs). This capability would allow teams to quickly gather critical data like size, shape, and composition, to inform mitigation strategies. Using proven commercial systems and navigation expertise demonstrated on CAPSTONE™, the architecture can reach targets with remarkable precision, even at extreme speeds. The study also identified over 100 candidate asteroids, covering more than 90% of potentially threatening NEOs. If a dangerous asteroid were discovered tomorrow, could we respond in time? The American Astronautical Society David C. Folta Symposium earlier this month brought together colleagues from NASA, industry, and academia to celebrate Dave’s lasting impact on astrodynamics and mission design. 💫 Dave has taught and mentored many of us at Advanced Space, and it was a true joy to honor him. His guidance has shaped not only careers, but missions spanning Moon to Mars, and beyond. Sessions explored the latest advances in cislunar operations, multi-body dynamics, and autonomous navigation, highlighting the depth of innovation across our community. 🛰️ More than anything, the symposium was a reminder of the foundation Dave helped build—and how much further we can go by continuing to collaborate, share, and push the boundaries of exploration together. April is Artemis Month! 🚀🌙 TODAY, Artemis II is scheduled to blast off, making history! After more than 50 years since humanity last ventured to the Moon, NASA's Artemis II mission is set to launch early this month from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen will embark on this groundbreaking 10-day mission around the Moon. Advanced Space is proud to support this historic mission, including Artemis II and III and is honored to contribute to this historic era of lunar exploration. In addition, our CAPSTONE spacecraft, launched in 2022 as the first Artemis pathfinder, helped validate the orbit and navigation technologies that future lunar missions will rely on, reducing risk for future spacecraft and enabling the infrastructure needed for sustained lunar operations.
