@shafii29110479 @AdzXII If you're going to say Shaykh Heitham al-Haddad, then that is just incorrect because you can tell from his fatwa that someone misinformed him about the whole process because he thinks that the government owns the university.

@AbdullahReads_ The issue is that it wouldn't necessarily qualify as an actual loan due to their being a repayment threshold - you don't have to pay it if you don't earn enough and it's written off after 30 years which means unless you have the means to you never will pay it off

@AdzXII I'm inclined to believe that it is riba. The only argument I've seen against this is flawed - which is that the government owns the university, so they are not technically lending you money. They don't own the university, though, so they are lending you money and it has interest.

Imām Abū Ḥanīfah narrated from Muḥārib b. Dithār, from Ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنه, that the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever prays four rakʿahs after the ʿIshāʾ prayer, before leaving the mosque, they are counted for him as four rakʿahs from the Night of Decree (Laylat al-Qadr).”
