Clark Ashton Smith once wrote a time travel story which actually took this into account. When the travels built their machine, the world immediately rushed off into space, and was left far behind. They had to wait in their machine until another world happened to come close enough for them to land. Then when they landed, the inhabitants were super hostile. So they took off again, and kept going until they found a third world. On this world, the inhabitants decided the time machine was a God and started worshipping it. Shortly afterwards, another time machine turned up from the second world, with the hostiles, who'd come to destroy them. The whole thing resulted in a big fight between the worshipers and the hostiles. None of any of these otherworld creatures were humanoid. I guess I should add that, realistically, the time machine could only go forward in time, not backward. So no paradoxes ensued. TL, DR; read Clark Ashton Smith. He'll blow your mind.

I’m sorry to ruin your day but the entire concept of a “time machine” is retarded. Location is never discussed. The sun is moving through space WHILE planets orbit. Go back 10yrs from current spot? You floating in space somewhere, insta-dead. Need time AND space machine. Sorry
