The amount of money your family or you have should not determine how good of an education you can get and neither should the color of your should the color of your skin. Educationonal opportunities. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Although practices such as race-neutral experiments “aim” to defeat disparities, it would seem that they actually support privileged students by acting as a back door for athletic advantage @KatryaLy #UCR50

@Jacqueline64118 @KatryaLy Individuals should have the right to use their own image and name if it helps support their aspiration, especially young adults! Networking and promotions are a part of real athletes as well, should they not be offered support in that department as well?? #UCR50 @KatryaLy

#UCR50 @KatryaLy Intercollegiate athletes work very hard to earn their spots and it is only fair if they were able to work on their entrepreneurial aspirations. I think it is fair for them to promote their business since this would give them an opportunity to earn an income.

With it widely being known that the financial aid agreement between student athletes and institutions containing large imbalances with various limitations, how have government bodies been able to ignore/get away with it for so long? @KatryaLy #UCR50

@cortez85218 @KatryaLy Unfortunately with our history, there isn’t already an established solution or acknowledgment or everyone fairly; however, the fact that we are having these conversations should be something to keep in mind as we move forward @KatryaLy #UCR50

I found this every surprising that Title IX was something that had to be made. That once upon a time ago women had to fight to equal sports. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Despite Title IX promoting gender equity and equal access to opportunities. Being stuck in a “tug-a-war” to see who receives more support from their institution. Why do we deviate our attention from initiative and not strive for equity? @KatryaLy #UCR50

@zjin046 @KatryaLy You bring a valid statement mentioning the affects towards mental health. Having team building be based around diversity and a promotion for these ideas of racial integration is a step forward in preventing the spread of discrimination @KatryaLy #UCR5

Racial interaction is important for college athletic students. Increasing the number of students of color can build interracial friendships, and positively impact student outcomes. Racial discrimination will negatively affect the mental health of people of color @KatryaLy #UCR50

As it has become evident that there are important benefits with a racially diverse student body, shouldn't there be a need to make sports which are predominantly white (Lacrosse; Water Polo; etc.) more accessible for diverse groups? @KatryaLy #UCR50

@iitzel_nandezz @KatryaLy Excellent reminder! As a generation, we are experiencing an awareness raise on our mental health; however, that does not mean we see results everywhere. Schools and Coaches need to remember that these student athletes are growing humans firsts! #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Many have experienced being doubted by teachers, role models, and at times our own families. Have we ever wondered to what extent this can affect a student-athlete mentally? Especially if they are constantly reminded by professors. #UCR50 @KatryaLy

Despite an acknowledgment to the clashes between institutional missions and athletic goals, campus Presidents believe that the (intangible/tangible) benefits to the campus/community outweigh any concern BUT at Who’s expense? 🤔 @KatryaLy #UCR50

@Daniella0116 @abhornUCRedu In some way, student athletes receive compensation such as expenses they're relieved from; yet, it is worth noting schools make far more than they do. SOMETIMES doing so through the image of these students. Is it not time for them to raise the bar on equity? #UCR50 @KatryaLy

While student athletes receive compensation from scholarships and expenses, the gap between tuition and commercial revenue calls for schools to find additional support options. ESPECIALLY when schools profit from the names and images of high-profile athletes. @KatryaLy #ucr50

@edisonpark333 @KatryaLy “…Athletic directors and coaches long for autonomy but simply cannot have it.” (Duderstadt.2015) Ambitious Coaches can harm the integrity of a school; however, should the focus be pointed at governing boards and university presidents? Who are the REAL culprits? #Ucr50 @KatryaLy

Should we compare the salaries of sports coaches to university faculty and teachers? My take? While both roles are vital, it's problematic to equate them purely monetarily. Coaches often generate revenue directly, but educators shape our future. A fair comparison?#UCR50 @KatryaLy

College sports may have its share of issues, BUT let's not forget that many within it strive for integrity and success within the rules. Are governing boards and university presidents the key to addressing challenges? @KatryaLy #ucr50

@lflor152 @KatryaLy @lflor152 I agree that it is definitely worth examining the relation between school's prioritizing athletics; however, it is also worth to look into students' value on sports-related careers which could put their academic/educational path at risk. #ucr50 @KatryaLy

Is it a distinct part of American culture that colleges will spend abundantly more money on athletics rather than on educating students? Could this incentivize young students to put more value into pursuing careers in sports rather than arts, sciences, etc? #ucr50 @KatryaLy

Discussion around if student athletes should be paid has circulated quite often; however, rather than prioritize their recognition in professionalism and commercialism, there should be a balance with their recognition as a student as well. @KatryaLy #UCR50
