With better equipment, food processing cooperatives in villages close to Benin’s Pendjari National Park can process more rice and soya beans, producing parboiled rice and soya cheese for sale. Thanks to the park and the European Union, five women’s cooperatives in the commune of Tanguiéta are seeing an increase in revenue, which is boosting their livelihoods and food security. “Today, thanks to the equipment provided by Pendjari National Park, we are very happy,” comments Ms Sahgui, president of the women's rice processing group in the village of Porhoun. #PendjariNationalPark #Benin #Agriculture #FoodProcessing #SocialEntrepreneurship #CapacityBuilding #EuropeanUnion #NaturAfricaWestAfrica #NAAO #AfricanParks

To date, the Project Basisa recycling initiative in Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago National Park has turned 188 tonnes of recovered beach and ocean plastic into 85,000 durable pavers. These have been used in construction projects throughout the area, solving a problem and creating a sustainable resource at the same time. As you walk around the new park Administrative Office at Vilankulo, try to tear your eyes away from the ocean views and glance down at your feet. You’ll find that you’re walking on Project Basisa paving, made up of pavers that may once have been plastic bottles or bags that posed a threat to marine wildlife. #BazarutoArchipelagoNationalPark #Mozambique #BANP #ANAC #WorldRecyclingDay #ProjectBasisa #CircularEconomy #PlasticRecycling #AfricanParks

In our latest blog, we’re telling the stories of farming communities on the fringes of Garamba National Park in DRC, and their efforts to reduce human-wildlife conflict and crop losses to wild animals. By combining customary and modern methods of deterring wildlife, farmers and their families are protecting their crops and livelihoods. ‘Learning and Growing Together’, the legend on the wall of the new hostel for female students at Malombe Secondary School near Malawi’s Liwonde National Park, neatly sums up the impact that the construction of this building is having. Rather than face a long, possibly unsafe walk to school, the students now have proper sleeping arrangements, sanitation and lighting, all factors which are addressing some of the issues that previously contributed to low attendance and graduation rates. #LiwondeNationalPark #Malawi #AccessToEducation #AfricanParks

With Angola acting as the official host country of ITB Berlin 2026, the team from Iona National Park had a wonderful platform from which to tell the park’s story. With decision makers from the global travel industry in attendance, ITB Berlin 2026 gave them an opportunity to share Angola’s message of sustainable ecotourism and community development. #ITB #ITBBerlin2026 #Angola #IonaNationalPark #Zambia #BangweuluWetlands #KafueNationalPark #RepublicOfCongo #OdzalaKokouaNationalPark #Tourism #AfricanParks

Storekeeper Youssouf Adoum Chidi has spent seven years working in Chad’s Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve (ENCR) and his experience in multiple support roles has given him a clear and convincing vision of what conservation means, and of “the importance of conserving our environment.” His commitment and hard work have made him an inspiring mentor to his colleagues, and he describes how he feels “great pride” in his work as storekeeper and his contribution to smooth operations throughout Ennedi. 📸Orozi Hangata #FacesOfAP #Ennedi #EnnediNaturalAndCulturalReserve #ENCR #Chad

The Makawa Beekeeping Club near Liwonde is a hive of activity, as founding member Namidiya Jailosi explains: “In the past, our main sources of income were hunting and charcoal production. Today, our income comes from honey sales and other interventions brought by Liwonde National Park, which has helped to create a very good balance.” The revenue from his beekeeping microenterprise has enabled Jailosi to build a new home for his family, pay school fees for his children, and diversify his smallholding. Meanwhile, the bees themselves are playing a vital role in maintaining biodiversity through pollinating plants around the hives. #LiwondeNationalPark #Malawi #HoneyWithAHeart #CommunityLedConservation #SocialEnterprise #AfricanParks

400 and counting… that’s how many individual giraffe were identified in the Boma Badingilo landscape in 2025, by adding aerial survey results to the AI-powered GiraffeSpotter database. This system is able to distinguish individual giraffe much more accurately than humans can, and is providing researchers with the data they need to understand giraffe numbers and population dynamics across this ecosystem. 📸 Inge van den Meiracker #BomaBadingilo #SouthSudan #GiraffeConservation #WildlifeMonitoring #GreatNileMigration #ConservationInAction #AfricanParks

Yesterday’s Business of Conservation Conference session in Nairobi ended on a high note. We had the pleasure of hosting a cocktail evening where we shared a presentation on our Rhino Rewild Initiative. Donovan Jooste, Project Manager for the Initiative, delivered an overview of this bold effort to rewild 2,000 rhinos to well-managed protected areas across Africa, offering a fascinating glimpse into what it takes to move these remarkable animals thousands of kilometres across the continent. It was a privilege to share this story with our partners, fellow conservationists, and friends from across the continent. Donovan’s message was clear: it is collaboration that drives this complex multi-country effort, supported by the commitment of governments, conservation practitioners, funders, and local communities. Thank you to everyone who joined us. The energy in the room and the shared sense of purpose are a powerful testament to the commitment to conservation. #BCC2026 #AfricanParks #ConservationSpeakers #Nairobi #ConservationLeadership

The Business of Conservation Conference (BCC) 2026 is currently underway in Nairobi. As a proud sponsor, African Parks is right at the heart of it, championing the future of conservation. Today, we heard from Hugues Akpona, our Regional Operations Manager, West Africa, who outlined how the narrative must move from protecting wildlife from people to protecting wildlife with people. This is where passion meets strategy. #BCC2026 #AfricanParks #ConservationSpeakers #Nairobi #ConservationLeadership

African Parks is participating in the Business of Conservation Conference over the next 2 days, and we’ll be sharing key insights during the course of the conference. What stood out for us in the opening discussion is this quote from Richard Vigne, Executive Director of the ALU School of Wildlife Conservation: “Conservation succeeds only if leadership and management are effective " #AfricanParks #BusinessOfConservation #BCC

This World Wildlife Day theme highlights the importance of plants, which have long been relied on by communities for medicinal purposes, supporting health, livelihoods, and cultural knowledge. When we practice conservation, we actively support biodiversity, community well-being, and resilient ecosystems. Protecting nature means protecting the systems that sustain people and planet. What traditional medicinal plants are used in your community? What knowledge has been passed down through your family? Share in the comments and help us celebrate the living connection between people and nature. #WorldWildlifeDay #WWD2026 #AfricanParks
