One of the biggest problems in modern dating is that some people build their whole identity around being victims.
Everything becomes suffering, trauma, even normal adult responsibilities are treated like unbearable struggles.
And the more hardship they can talk about, the more they feel their feelings should come first all the time.
Of course, everybody goes through pain in life. Real trauma exists, and people deserve empathy and support. But there is a difference between healing from pain and using pain as a permanent excuse for bad behavior, selfishness, or lack of accountability.
Some people become so used to being seen as victims that they stop trying to grow. They expect everyone around them to keep giving energy, patience, understanding, money, time, and emotional support while they give very little back in return.
Relationships like that become exhausting.
You end up constantly managing emotions, fixing problems, walking on eggshells, and carrying the entire relationship alone.
The dangerous part is when somebody becomes deeply attached to this mindset. At that point, every disagreement becomes an attack, every correction becomes oppression, and every expectation placed on them feels “unfair.”
You cannot build a healthy relationship with someone who refuses accountability and always sees themselves as the injured party in every situation.
Stay away from people who only know how to receive but never know how to build, support, or give back.
