#AgEcon #EconTwitter #AgriculturalEconomics 🎉 Congratulations to Paolo Nota, Daniele Curzi, Oliver Ken Haase, and Alessandro Olper on their outstanding paper published in the Journal of Agricultural Economics! @AgEconSoc🎉 The research on "The impact of heat waves on food industry productivity: Firm-level evidence from Italy" is both timely and critical. 🌍📊 The study investigates how heat waves affect the productivity of the Italian food industry. Analyzing daily weather and firm-level data from 2004 to 2019, the authors found that heat waves lead to a 3.2% reduction in Total Factor Productivity (TFP) on average. Smaller firms are particularly vulnerable, experiencing a 7% reduction in TFP. The study attributes this productivity loss to decreased worker efficiency, with increased labor input failing to fully compensate. The impact varies across subsectors, with notable effects on well-known Italian products like wine. These findings underscore the need for policy interventions, especially given the expected rise in heat wave frequency due to climate change. 🌡️🍇
