@Dr_Yannis As opportunistic feeders, cookiecutter sharks have been shown to feed on immersed humans in a comparable fashion to fishes. See for example our study in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27623973/ We identified similar bite patterns in Hawaii: link.springer.com/article/10.100…

We found that cookiecutters sharks loved swordfish. They would be covered in bites. Never saw anything like this though! Those bites likely happened while the fish was on the line... Captain Reels In Swordfish Covered In Cookie Cutter Holes msn.com/en-us/video/an…

Welcome to one of our new BB-Lab members, Dr Emese Vegh! @emese_vegh recently started her FWO Postdoctoral Fellowship where she'll be researching diagenetic changes to unburnt & burnt bone, & the thermal stability of bioapatite to understand prehistoric funerary practices
