@billw249@adamg1224 Very simple…power conferences are boxing mid majors out. Miami OH, High Point, VCU, and SLU winning doesn’t reverse the direction of the sport but it’s a hell lot better than the little guys getting blown out of the gym.
Two near perfect draws for the A10 and they got ‘em both. Not sure either can win their next game but we’ll see. Two tourney wins is great for the league.
@makerofcents@udlowdboyz@Ghost_of_Ghosty No clue if the money a VCU (maybe SLU too rn) tourney win actually matters to Dayton but great for the narrative that mid majors belong. SLU’s generally been harmless the last 10 years but just something about this year and their fans rubbed me the wrong way.
@Agent_Arch@udlowdboyz@Ghost_of_Ghosty Agree. VCU is our conference mate which means more money in the conference plus teams outside the P5 doing well pushes the argument that more of us should be getting in.
Agree on Shulga. Their guys play hard.
Easier to root for VCU than SLU.
@Agent_Arch@Ghost_of_Ghosty Simply because they are our biggest rival. I hated the Havoc bullshit under Shaka. Mike Rhoades was a cuck. I hated the VCU teams with Alie-Cox and Lewis. I hated Justin Tillman.
A positive i can take away from this CBB season is that another portion of the Dayton fanbase has come to terms with VCU passing us by in every conceivable way while UD shackles themselves to Anthony Grant for another year.
@MichaelCal10323@FlyerTom23 Greer seems highly regarded but on another tweet you said a big overhaul is needed. I agree, but I think that happens with an outside hire who brings in new players, playing styles, recruiting philosophies, and new juice to the program.
@Agent_Arch@FlyerTom23 Also, with the Coaching mess at Providence, the younger Derkack (Aiden, that is) might be decommiting from the Friar program in favor of UD. Derkack's Dad and Coach Greer have a tight Florida connection. BTW, should Grant decide to retire, Ricardo Greer will be his replacement.
With the landscape as it is I can’t figure out why Dayton would accept an NIT bid. Can’t play round 1 or 2 at home so no revenue…delaying the start of recruiting is really rough and unless AG gets guys who haven’t played much this year into the games I don’t see the point.
@MichaelCal10323@FlyerTom23 L’Etang isn’t pro ready right now but teams draft potential and he’s 7’1 with ball skills, 36% from 3, and an elite passer. I think he transfers up for better competition/exposure/coaching. Simon/Thomas/Heard need minutes, confidence, and coaching and I think they will be good.
@Agent_Arch@FlyerTom23 Do not necessarily agree with you on a couple of things. One, L'Etang is going nowhere as he is not even close to being NBA or G League ready. Simon will be a force next year as will Heard. Hopefully, selfish Montgomery goes away but they need a big overhaul. Not sold on Thomas!
I get the ncaa or bust. But i am glad Dayton accepted an NIT bid this year.
I like this team, playing decent right now, and when they are on they can be really strong.
Why don’t we host NIT games at the old fieldhouse? that would be fun. 5,000 people get that place rocking.
@PC_Coms@808_flyer What’s so funny? He’s 7’1 with ball skills, 36% from 3, and an elite passer. Yeah I wish he wasn’t so soft and rebounded better but he’s been in and out of mock drafts this year. We’d be lucky to have him back again but I think he’ll transfer up a level at least if not go pro.
@808_flyer@JJ_Jackson13 It’s was never about points/minutes/money for those guys. Of the 5 reasons I said (coaching, competition, training, exposure, and money) money was last/least important reason. Brea hit his ceiling at Dayton and Mali needed a fresh start. Not to mention both have degrees.
@Agent_Arch@JJ_Jackson13 That last sentence was ‘mali definitely…’
With him the move was more about the fan abuse. He wanted to stay at dayton, but was legit getting threats from crazy people
@808_flyer@JJ_Jackson13 Do you think Malachi Smith and Koby Brea’s production and growth was stifled going to Kentucky and UConn and getting better coaching, better competition, better training, a bigger stage for exposure, and not to mention a whole lot more money?
@Agent_Arch@JJ_Jackson13 Disagree. Frenchie would not get the kind of production and growth at an SEC type conference. His best chance to play NBA or even top euroleague ball is to stay at Dayton
@JJ_Jackson13@808_flyer I don’t disagree that he’s not ready to go pro but he’s close and has been in and out of mocks all year. I think Dayton was lucky DaRon came back when he could play at whatever P4 school he wanted. Pros or P4, L’etang came back this year, I don’t see him doing it again.
Dayton Basketball Offseason To Do List:
-Move on from Anthony Grant (Fire or retire, I don’t care which)
-Recruit and replicate VCU’s exact roster the past 10 years (Long, athletic, rebound focused, and two-way players)
VCU just won their 3rd title in 4 years with 3 different coaches. Anthony Grant has missed the tournament 7 out of 9 years.
That's all you need to hear. Fire his ass.
James Franklin won a lot of games, couldn’t beat Ohio St. Anthony Grant won a lot of games, couldn’t beat VCU. It’s not about the quantity of wins for these programs, it’s about not always coming up short. Hopefully Dayton follows Penn St’s playbook.
