**HOW TO BUILD A 100-GOAT FARM IN 18 MONTHS** Many farmers dream of owning 100 goats. Few understand the system behind it. Here's how to grow your goat farm to 100 strong animals in just 18 months using planning, breeding, and proper management. **A small thread** **Phase 1: Setup & Starter Stock (Month 1–3)** Start with 1 plot of land. Build raised pens. Install clean water and feed storage. Buy 20–25 healthy does and 2–3 strong bucks. Quarantine, deworm, and vaccinate every new animal. **Phase 2: First Breeding Cycle (Month 4–9)** Use controlled mating so most does give birth around the same time. Feed a mix of grasses, legumes, PKC, forage, and molasses. Monitor health, tag animals, and keep records. **Phase 3: First Kidding (Month 10–12)** Expect 35–50 kids if managed well. Feed pregnant does calcium and protein-rich diets. Wean kids at 2.5–3 months. Deworm and start creep feed. Keep the best for breeding, separate the rest by weight. **Phase 4: Second Mating & Grow-Out (Month 13–16)** Re-mate original does for a second cycle. Grow first batch to sale weight (20–25kg). Keep top kids for future breeding. Sell the rest. **Phase 5: Sales & Scaling (Month 17–18)** By now you'll have: – 35–50 breeding does – 3–5 bucks – 30–50 grow-outs – 100 goats total, ready to sell, breed, or scale further Market to butchers, farmers, meat buyers, and online. Farming success is built with systems. Not guesswork.

🌧️ Risk Management in Agriculture During Heavy Rains Heavy rains can be both a blessing and a threat in agriculture. While water is essential for crop growth, excessive rainfall can destroy yields, erode soil, spread diseases, and wipe out investments overnight. Risk management is no longer optional, it’s survival. ⚠️ Key Risks During Heavy Rainfall: •Waterlogging & root suffocation •Soil erosion & nutrient loss •Crop diseases (fungal outbreaks) •Delayed farm operations •Infrastructure damage (roads, irrigation systems) Understanding these risks is the first step to managing them. 🌾 1. Smart Land Preparation Good drainage is everything. •Create drainage channels before planting •Use raised beds or ridges •Avoid farming in flood-prone lowlands without mitigation Prevention starts before the first drop of rain falls. 🌱 2. Crop & Variety Selection Not all crops respond the same to excess water. •Choose flood-tolerant or early-maturing varieties •Diversify crops to spread risk •Integrate resilient crops like cassava or certain legumes Diversification = insurance. 🧪 3. Soil Health Management Healthy soils absorb and retain water better. •Add organic matter (compost, manure) •Practice minimum tillage •Use cover crops to reduce erosion Soil is your first line of defense. 💧 4. Water Management Systems Too much water is just as dangerous as too little. •Install proper drainage systems •Harvest excess rainwater for later use •Maintain irrigation canals regularly Control water, don’t let it control you. 🦠 5. Pest & Disease Control Heavy rains create perfect conditions for fungal diseases. •Monitor fields regularly •Apply preventive treatments when necessary •Ensure proper plant spacing for airflow Early action saves yields. 🚜 6. Farm Operations Planning Rain disrupts timing. •Adjust planting schedules based on seasonal forecasts •Use weather information for decision-making •Prepare flexible labor plans Timing is everything in farming. 🏗️ 7. Infrastructure Protection Farm roads, storage, and irrigation systems are vulnerable. •Reinforce storage facilities •Protect seed and fertilizer from moisture •Maintain access roads Post-harvest losses often start with poor infrastructure. 💼 8. Financial Risk Management Heavy rain = financial uncertainty. •Consider agricultural insurance •Diversify income streams (livestock, value addition) •Keep emergency funds Resilient farms are financially prepared. 📊 9. Use Data & Forecasts Climate-smart agriculture is data-driven. •Follow weather forecasts •Use advisory services •Work with extension agents Information reduces uncertainty. 🤝 10. Collective Action Matters Farmers are stronger together. •Form cooperatives •Share resources and knowledge •Advocate for better drainage systems and policies Community resilience = agricultural resilience. Climate variability is the new normal. Heavy rains will continue to challenge agriculture, but with the right strategies, farmers can turn risk into resilience. Prepared farmers don’t just survive, they thrive. #Agriculture #ClimateSmart #Agribusiness #FoodSecurity #FarmManagement

Pacifique DUSABIMANA👨‍🌾
It’s been a while since I shared an update here, but this one matters. I recently started a new role as Local Director of IAAS Morocco - UM6P Committee within the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences, @IAAS_World. For the next one year, I’ll be working alongside a team of passionate young leaders to strengthen how students engage with agriculture, not just as a field of study, but as a space for leadership, innovation, and real-world impact. Because here is something I strongly believe: The future of food systems will be shaped by young people who choose to engage, not just observe. This role is an opportunity to do exactly that. To build. To connect. To challenge ideas. And to grow together. It also comes with big responsibility. Building on the foundation set by the previous board led by Kawtar Kettani, and contributing to a stronger, more connected IAAS community, within @UM6P_officiel - University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, across Morocco, and internationally. An exciting highlight ahead: IAAS Morocco will host the International Conference for Youth in Agriculture (ICYA) this August, a powerful moment to connect with young agricultural leaders from around the world. To everyone in Morocco, students, young professionals, and anyone curious about the future of agriculture and food systems: this space is for you. Let’s connect. Let’s grow. Let’s build something meaningful in agrifood systems. #UM6P #IAAS #YouthInAgriculture #FoodSystems #Morocco

I brought in a geology team and we explored underground water for farmers in my community. I found out that ground water exploration is actually done using a resistivity machine with electrodes that send an electric current into the ground.
