#GROWCoopNews It's a wrap! We just concluded another batch of Female Leadership Training in Koronadal City led by Agriterra and Sorosoro Ibaba Development Cooperative. This is a capacity building program under the USAID Philippines-funded GROW Coop Project.

Agriterra, together with Citicore Candlewick Bioenergy, Inc. (CCBI) and through the USAID GROW Coop Project, conducted a female leadership training for 6 upland agricultural cooperatives in Negros Occidental wherein participants analyzed the role of women in the value chain.

Agriterra is an international specialist in cooperative development. We employ a holistic approach toward making agricoops bankable and sustainable, which includes prioritizing cross-cutting issues on climate action, women empowerment, and youth participation.

Governance is the heart and motor of agricultural cooperatives. Agriterra’s Governance training for Lamac MPC, FCCT, Comavemco MPC, and Baybay Dairy Coop will provide participants knowledge on the components of good governance as well as good practices in cooperatives.

The Youth Leadership Masterclass 2022 aims to equip delegates with entrepreneurial skills to build their confidence for greater participation and leadership. 17 youth leaders endorsed by GROW Coop Local Resource Organizations (LROs) are participating in this year’s masterclass.

“One of the key projects we are doing at the Bank is to finance agriculture. This is one way we can make our product better. We also need assistance because even banks do not want to do agri finance—it is risky. But it is basically what this [CRM] project is trying to address.”

“I appreciate the gesture of the Cooperative Resiliency Mechanism (CRM) to utilize the seven cooperative principles. Farmers feed us every day but they cannot feed their own families. This is the right time for us to serve them as well, in deeds and not just in words.”

On agricultural insurance literacy: “One challenge is that even big cooperatives see insurance as a cost. They buy fire insurance but not for allied perils like typhoons, flooding, & earthquakes. Coops do not cover this policy despite this policy being already available.”
