Meet the hairy big-eyed bat (Chiroderma villosum), one of the amazing phyllostomid bats we found in the #ECOCACAO agroforests 🦇🌳🍫 Although many phyllostomids are great seed dispersers, this is not the most effective one, as they chew the seeds to benefit from their nutrients

3/4 🦇And let's not forget the bats! 25 bat species have been recorded, all with a keen appetite for arthropods! 🦟🍽️ We're analyzing their hunting buzzes 🎤📈 and try to get fecal samples for DNA studies of their prey.

Our last round of mist netting was successfully completed today in #ECOOLIVES! 🥳🫒🐦🫒 After ~ 200 birds in the hand we gained a lot of experience and were stunned by the huge variability of each individual 🌟 Now happy to gain more sleep until the next round starts in Sep.! 😴

Since March, @MelvinOpolka, a master student from @Zoo3_Wuerzburg, has been working on 🐜diversity in cacao and studying with @BioIvanez the effect of Atta ants and their leaf preference. He’s now getting some well deserved holidays and will soon id the ants in 🇩🇪THANKS MELVIN!
