This is an understandable tone from him. Binotto being super snarky and angered by his Ferrari departure? Shocker 😅 The reality is, he led an organizational coup, got the chief seat, and was honestly in over his head. The team was never operationally worse than it was under his tenure, and the fractured environment and erratic results were simply not sustainable. A change had to be made. Interestingly enough, it’s a bit more revealing than he intends - he enters an Audi culture where he doesn’t HAVE freedom to design the workings around him, so he gets to run the German game plan. That’s what he needed. When he was the man responsible for establishing and manifesting that environment in Ferrari from a team that wanted it but didn’t have it yet, he could not. The constant “scapegoating” that Ferrari gets accused of is actually a sign of the poor leadership that has been in the TP role many times. The “culture” gets blamed for leadership inadequacies as much as people get blamed for things. Vasseur has begun the vital multi-year steps towards redesigning that, which was also the opportunity Binotto had. Yet the confidence in the individual, the methodology, and the corrections are all vastly improved. Under Fred’s leadership Ferrari secured Leclerc’s extension and Lewis’ signing, course corrected from Binotto’s 2023 debacle, cleaned house, competed for an unlikely 2024 title, endured a 2025 design disappointment while continuing to clean house, and a massive turnaround for 2026. That should be very telling. I think Audi is likely a good fit for Binotto, but his barbs come from a bit of self-induced failures and bad blood.

He's not just defending AI energy use. He is smuggling in a whole anthropology where humans are basically inefficient meat computers that you have to pour food and years into before they become useful. And once you accept that, the next move is obvious. If people are just costly biological training runs, then burning mountains of electricity to build synthetic intelligence starts to feel not only equal, but superior, even if it negatively impacts actual humans. That is the dystopian. It makes human development sound like a bug in the system, and it makes sacrificing human and creational flourishing for more computational power sound logical. To him, the grid gets strained, prices go up, ecosystems get hit, but hey, humans eat too, so what's the difference? The difference is that humans aren't an inefficient line item. They're the point. If your worldview can look at a child growing into an adult and describe it as energy spent to train intelligence, you haven't said something profound. You've revealed a horrifically rotten worldview.
