4/4 It’s a complex equation. We are essentially testing if a streamlined list maintains immunity or opens gaps. Whether this is a smart optimization or a risky gamble, only time (and data) will tell.

3/4What will the fallout be? It’s hard to say. Maybe... nothing? Since funding will reportedly still cover the "non-recommended" vaccines, access remains (in theory). But removing the official "Universal Recommendation" sends a strong signal to the public.

1/4 Major shift in US health policy: The CDC is cutting the childhood vaccine schedule from 17 to 11 diseases Hep B & RSV ➡️ High-risk only. MMR & Polio ➡️ Remain universal. The rationale? "International alignment," specifically citing Denmark. 🧵 #PublicHealth #CDC #Vaccines

3/3 If the jump happens, we have the science, but we need logistics to distribute it. That takes time. Time = Lives Reality Check: Don't panic. The chance of mutation is minimal; this variant has been "scowling" at us for decades.

2/3 It’s breaching barriers (cows -> humans). While it’s not spreading human-to-human yet, its mortality rate is 48-52% (vs COVID’s ~1%). If it adapts, a crisis is inevitable. The Paradox: We have a vaccine, but it’s limited. Nobody invests when "nothing is happening."

1/3 Two days. That is the exact window we’ll have to react if an H5N1 pandemic begins, according to a BMC Public Health simulation. Why care? H5N1 is now "enzootic" (constantly circulating) in new regions and is the main driver of the recent egg price crisis. 🧵

Prof. Derek Smith (Cambridge) labeled the new H3N2 variant a "Shift" due to its 7 mutations. In my opinion, this is more of a "Major Drift" rather than a classic shift. Either way, one thing is certain - a hard winter is coming. 🥶 #H3N2 #Flu #Epidemiology

New study in Science Immunology: Infants with RSV + allergic mothers face highest asthma risk. 🫁 Viral infection up-regulates Fc receptors, helping maternal IgG antibodies trigger allergic responses in the baby. RSV prophylaxis could prevent this. science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

7th person cured of #HIV. Unlike most previous cases, this patient received stem cells that weren't fully HIV-resistant. This proves we don't strictly need rare CCR5 mutations for a cure. Huge for research. Source: nature.com/articles/s4158…

Researchers developing an intranasal nanogel vaccine for cervical cancer show promising results in mice & macaques. Unlike current HPV shots, this is therapeutic-aiming to treat existing tumors via mucosal immunity. A potential non-surgical future for preserving fertility. #HPV

Canada just lost its measles elimination status (held since '98). An outbreak in under-vaxxed communities has lasted > 1 year. The US is right behind them, tracking its worst year since 1992. #Measles #VaccinesWork #PublicHealth
