Why 2.4 is a bad choice at #WLPC. Test with #airmobile in Main ballroom when empty. First test from podium and second from back of ballroom.

If you are present at WLPC check your “goodie bag” for a free coupon for the AirMobile Installer Pro App, if not test some WiFi room tagging and download the free AirMobile Installer App here: play.google.com/store/apps/det… #WLPC

@GjermundRaaen I am honored, thank you. It took me only 20 years to learn a bit of wifi. You seem to have done more in two. And if you extrapolate, say two more years in the future, you might actually end up in a class of your own!

@AirMobileWiFi Thanks, I thought it was you. I don't like discussions with people hiding behind a pseudonym. And I know you are s very knowledge man

@GjermundRaaen 2/2 I meant Rate/Length, but it's been a while I read the standard. So, if that is received, it must be CCA/CS, right? Another scenario the same BSS, the frame is from another STA to AP. The the 6Mbps Rate/Length can be its savior against hidden nodes in same BSS - our STA waits.

@GjermundRaaen 1/2 Sorry for not introducing myself. I've been reading your posts for so long that I considered you very familiar. Karol Krol is my name and I am one of the guys helping build Airmobile products. Not active much, the ghost frames woke me up.

@GjermundRaaen I think: - frame to STA3 - at CRC check, frame not to STA3 doesn't care - CCA CS, otherwise no point using duration field

@AirMobileWiFi Thank you so much. I have used "j" all my life. There are some interesting topics - when does STA3 fail, early or after the CRC check in the end - does an STA consider the "not understandable" part as 802.11 traffic and a hit in CCA CS or is this ED

@GjermundRaaen I think it would be interesting to split the scenarios here: 1 - the frame from AP is sent to STA3 and 2- the frame is not sent to STA3

@GjermundRaaen 2/2 And how would we quantify this? Max thruput for a given STA, BSS aggregated, waiting time, jitter? Would be nice to know how much time each STA spends waiting to access the channel and plot that vs time.

@GjermundRaaen 1/2 Exactly, at 6Mbps they visible and not ghost frames anymore. I am thinking more in general, all types of traffic use 6Mbps for preamble and often higher for data field. This silences many other STA/APs on the channel. The questions is - is it good or no?

@GjermundRaaen 1/2 But just like you I prefer preamble at 6Mbps and the BSS coloring to solve that problem. But even this cannot be tested, yet.

@GjermundRaaen 1/1 A perfect explanation of the phenomenon itself. And for the imaginary part you used j not i, like those mathematicians do:-) What I'd love to know is how the 6Mbps preamble affects the overall performance of the BSS. I wish we could test with other preamble rates

@GjermundRaaen @Mac_WiFi Hopefully yes. But STA1 could still be associated to this AP and using MCS0(which has similar range to 6Mbps PHY header) for data while the management traffic is capped at 12Mbps. Most networks do not limit MCS at all. Not an ideal situation thou.

@Mac_WiFi @AirMobileWiFi STA1 should not associate to this AP. It should have a better AP to choose (higher RSSI) and hopefully another channel

@Mac_WiFi @GjermundRaaen Well, I guess it is a bit of a trade off. STA1 needing to wait lowers the performance, yes; but think how many hidden node scenarios between multiple STAx can be avoided because of the greater range of 6Mbps PHY headers. The overall results greatly depend on the physical layout.

@AirMobileWiFi @GjermundRaaen You explain the issue very well in that article. One challenge I would make is: What if the lowest allowed rate is 12mbps (or higher), which is very common? STA1 would not be close enough to be associated but would have to silence itself because of PHY 6mbps length field.
