@ewangibbs Here I think it's less of an issue. If the intention is to have a lot of these IC trains electrified in the next decade or two then you get stuck running diesel under wires cause you own the train. Lease the interim solution and buy the electric loco you run it's whole life

What’s the point in having publicly owned railways if we don’t own our own trains? Characteristically inept policy from the SNP Scottish government to put private profit over the public interest.

@JonathanEley Except the intergenerational argument doesn't work here. We should give 60+ year old bus passes as they're going to gradually stop being medically fit to drive. Getting them used to using buses before that happens helps them, their kids they will depend on and other road users.

This is interesting. I would find it hard to live in the monotone, utterly conformist, 'cribbed, cabined and confined' society that this man believes we all yearn for. His country could never have been founded on such principles, no youngster worth their salt would abide such a place.
