@canaanio have been very generous and donated the first hardware I've received from a manufacturer in over a decade to aid in further development and support of mining at solo.ckpool.org . There are probably very few staff from the original team that developed the Avalon 1, and they were completely unaware that I helped fix and improve the driver for that hardware almost 13 years ago, but it's nice to see their latest products and resume a relationship that stretches so far back. I unboxed the smallest device they donated in the photo below - the Nano 3S. It's light-years removed from the old device in industrial design, finish, ease of setup, use, efficiency, and noise. The phone app was very easy to use to set it up initially, but manually inputting pool information was a pain - including having type the completely redundant "stratum+tcp://" when all stratum v1 mining is. It comes with a QR code to scan to mine at f2pool only, which of course I had zero interest in doing. Connecting to the web interface after I had it on my wifi it was much easier to configure, though oddly the web interface was less featured than the phone app. In quiet mode it was quieter than my bitaxe gamma at its lowest settings. Quiet mining is novel to me as the last time I was mining in earnest my garage was making so much noise I had complaints from the local council about industrial site level noise coming from a residential property. It's currently sitting at 3.5TH/s consuming just 62W in the quietest mode. Over the next couple of days I'll post about the Mini3 and the AvalonQ which were also donated. All of this gear will make it a heck of a lot easier to mine testnet blocks with ckpool changes, some of which I'd been putting off for quite a while because of the difficulty in doing so. They've also arrived as we enter our colder seasons making for very welcome timing.
