This weekend read The Halo Effect: The core idea of the book is that when  a company is performing well financially, observers- journalists, investors, analysts- tend to retroactively describe its culture, leadership, strategy and people in glowing terms. When the same company later struggles financially, every previous attribute get recast as a flaw. The underlying reality may not have changed much  but our perception of the cause changes to match the outcome. I think that India is currently suffering from a negative Halo Effect. Because the market has not done well and needs to be rationalized the observers are finding all possible flaws to try and justify the reasons in hindsight. If we can separate the current performance from the – in this case negative- Halo, we can better understand whether this poor performance is temporary or something more permanent.

आज स्वातंत्र्यवीर विनायक दामोदर सावरकर यांची जयंती. सावरकर हे हिंदू राष्ट्रवाद मांडणारे तत्वज्ञ होते, क्रियाशील धर्मसुधारक, समाजसुधारक होते, आणि तितकेच विज्ञाननिष्ठ पण होते. सावरकर हे माझ्या मते देशातील एक असे महापुरुष आहेत, की त्यांच्या टीकाकारांना पूर्ण सावरकर कधी कळले नाहीत किंवा झेपले नाहीत. आणि सध्या सावरकरांचा उदोउदो करून त्यातून मतांची बेगमी करण्याचा प्रयत्न करणाऱ्यांनी तरी सावरकर वाचले असतील का? त्यांना समजले असतील का याची शंकाच आहे. प्रत्येक गोष्ट आपल्या बुद्धीला पटते का हे पाहणारे सावरकर खरंच यांना झेपत असतील का ? सावरकरांना कधीच एका व्यक्तीचा उदोउदो करणं मान्य नव्हतं. कुठलीही गोष्ट तर्क आणि विज्ञानाच्या कसोट्यांवर थोडक्यात सत्य असत्य स्वतः तपासून बघितलं पाहिजे असं त्यांचं ठाम मत होतं. हे सगळं सांगण्याचं कारण इतकंच ज्या भूमीत सावरकर जन्माला आले त्या महाराष्ट्रात व्हाट्सअप विद्यापीठात काय आलंय ते चूक बरोबर काही न तपासता किंवा साधा विचार पण न करता खरं मानण्याची चढाओढ लागली आहे. याच महाराष्ट्रात राजकारणी भोंदू बाबांच्या भजनी लागल्याचं दिसत आहे. आणि आपण कोण होतो, आपली महाराष्ट्राची परंपरा किती उज्वल होती हे न बघता उत्सव, डीजे याच्यात आपल्याला गुंतवून ठेवलं जात आहे. सावरकर हे प्रखर हिंदू धर्मभिमानी होते पण म्हणून धर्मातील त्रुटींवर टीका करताना त्यांनी कधी मागेपुढे पाहिलं नाही. पण आज सावरकरांच्या महाराष्ट्रात त्यांच्या प्रतिमा वापरून फक्त धर्मात तेढ पसरवणं सुरु आहे. जिथे त्यांनी जाती अंताचा लढा दिला त्या महाराष्ट्रात जातींवरून डोकी फोडणं सुरु आहे. आणि याला खतपाणी सत्ताधारी घालत आहेत. उठता बसता सावकरकरांचा तिरस्कार करणाऱ्यांना सोडून द्या. पण जे त्यांचा वापर स्वतःच्या राजकारणासाठी करत आहेत त्यांना नक्की कुठले सावरकर कळलेत आणि त्यांचे कुठले विचार राजकीय आचरणात आणण्याची तयारी आहे? मी गेल्या २ महिन्यांत दोन वेळेस भाषणांमधून महाराष्ट्र विचारांनी आणि कल्पनांनी किती संपन्न आणि पुढारलेला होता हे सादरीकरण करून सांगतोय. याचं कारण आपण कोण होतो हेच आपण विसरलो तर पुढे कुठे जायचं याचा मार्ग आखणार तरी कसे आहोत ? आणि यासाठी जर आपण सत्तेला आसुलेले राजकारणी आणि व्हाट्सअप विद्यापीठातील खोटी नरेटिव्ह यावर अवलंबून राहणार असू तर महाराष्ट्राचं कठीण आहे. आपण कोण होतो आणि आपल्या परंपरेतलं जे उत्तम आहे ते घेणं, प्रत्येक गोष्टीला तर्कावर तपासून बघणं हे करणं म्हणजेच सावरकरांना खरी श्रद्धांजली. अन्यथा तो उपचार ठरेल. स्वातंत्र्यवीर विनायक दामोदर सावरकरांच्या स्मृतीस महाराष्ट्र नवनिर्माण सेनेचं विनम्र अभिवादन ! राज ठाकरे ।
