What seems odd is as they keep insisting that the State Pension is a benefit & benefits are non taxable, then if that’s the case, if you have a private pension then that shouldn’t be added to a State Pension then taxed. Either it’s a benefit or it’s not a benefit, can’t be both.

@annaroseridgway Is it hate a pensioner day today? You have a rather warped view of life I'm afraid. If you seriously wanted to talk about Pension Reform, the elephant in the room is defined benefit public sector pensions. But I note that you don't mention those

These socialists who want to end the triple lock simply don’t understand that £12,500 is only around one p&o cruise per month.

@Heidi_Labour A major contributor to potholes are utility companies digging holes and not filling them in to the required standard. Are ouncils able to take action against them?

Shelling out at the garage to repair pothole damage is no joke - I should know. That's why we're investing record funding to fix Britain's roads, and introducing tough new standards to make sure road users see the difference. thesun.co.uk/motors/3883046…

It’s great to hear this from @conservatives Lord Gove. The cost of the state pension has risen every year for the last eight years and while we certainly need it, we should also consider whether millionaires should be receiving the same as those on pension credit. I’d say no.

“I don’t think [the triple lock] is defensible...” Former Conservative Cabinet Minister Michael Gove makes the case for reviewing commitments to the “current settlement” of the pension triple lock, to ease the impact of the UK energy shock caused by the Iran war. #Newsnight

@GayTory Whatever changes are made, they would need to be gradual with entry to PS DB being closed by a certain date and new DC schemes opened. People plan on the basis of what is available and you can't leave people in the lurch by making sudden changes.

Whilst I agree in principle, due to the Ponzi nature of public sector pensions the taxpayer would have a bill to pick up for existing pensioners in the short to medium term if future accruals were actually being paid into a DC fund as opposed to paying existing pensioners. We’d still have to find savings from the current budget.
AJ@Ajouk

@KathyParr101 @GayTory The elephant in the room is public sector defined benefit pensions which are far superior to private sector defined contribution pensions, especially with very high Er contributions. Let's level the aging fields and save around £20 billion!!

They’re being taxed too much for many reasons; the idle, the wasteful public sector and, unfortunately, the triple lock. I remember the days of OAPs not having food or money for heating, but I also remember a quarter of working age adults not being sat at home twiddling their thumbs. OAPs aren’t on the poverty line now, but many working people are.

Pensioners have been deliberately singled out as scapegoats by the government. Apparently the state pension & the triple lock are 'unsustainable'. In reality, it's the non-contributory benefits, increasing exponentially and dished out to all and sundry which are unsustainable.
Tom Harwood@tomhfh

By Gove he's right.

@GayTory If the working age benefits for all were cut, and the public sector pensions reformed, then the triple lock could be continued.

@rayner_susannah @paullewismoney Im not blaming it on Brexit, it was going to be implemented anyway and the UK had major inputs into it before we left. Our difference is that I am not complaining about it as it was bound to happen as we are an external Country, just like it happens when we visit the US 🤷.

@rayner_susannah @paullewismoney It's just reality and how exactly are we paying for it? We left, therefore we are treated as an outside country, it's really quite simple. If you don't want to queue to get into EU, go to the USA and stand in a queue there instead.

@Ajouk @paullewismoney And I will simply repeat, the incompetent bungling of the EU has nothing to do with the UK or Brexit. I have zero sympathy with people moaning on about why we’re no longer part of the EU when they seem to think we should embrace & indeed pay for this kind of crap.
