Every time I go home, I carry just one chocolate for my dad. Just Dairy Milk. Not because I cannot afford better. But because growing up, he could not. Every birthday. Every small celebration. He brought me the same chocolate. I never questioned it until one day he told me why. As a child, he watched other kids eat it while he stood aside. It was a luxury he could not touch. Success is not always loud. Sometimes it comes in a purple wrapper.

Day 5/14: Error Handling & Validation Today I learned how to make backends fail safely without crashes or accepting bad data. Topics covered: > Why error handling matters > Input validation > Status codes > Try-catch blocks > Global error handlers > Logging basics Handling chaos gracefully 🧵.... 1/ Why This Matters Errors WILL happen: > Users send wrong data > Tokens expire > Database fails > Network timeouts Without error handling: > Server crashes > Users see white screen With error handling: > Server stays running > Clear error messages > Issue logged for fixing Professional backends expect errors. 2/ Input Validation Stop bad data before it enters your database. Common checks: > Required fields (email can't be empty) > Format validation (valid email structure) > Length limits (password min 8 chars) > Type checking (age must be number) > Uniqueness (email already exists) Tools: express-validator, Joi, Zod Reject bad data early → cleaner database → fewer bugs. 3/ HTTP Status Codes Communicate what went wrong clearly: 400 → Bad input (missing email) 401 → Not logged in (invalid token) 403 → Logged in but no permission 404 → Not found (wrong endpoint) 409 → Conflict (email already used) 500 → Server error (database crashed) Frontend sees status → shows right message to user. Consistent codes = better UX. 4/ Try-Catch Blocks Database and API calls can fail anytime. Without protection: > Code tries to fetch user > Database is down > Entire server crashes > All users disconnected With try-catch protection: > Code tries to fetch user > Database is down > Error caught > Server stays running > User gets clear message: "Failed to fetch data" Think: Safety net for risky operations. When to use: > Database queries (find, create, update, delete) > External API calls > File operations > Payment processing Rule: Always wrap operations that talk to external systems. One bad request shouldn't kill your entire backend. 5/ Global Error Handler Catch all errors in one place instead of repeating code everywhere. How it works: > Error thrown anywhere in app > Flows to central handler > Sends consistent response Benefits: > Write once, use everywhere > Same format for all errors > Easy to update Place at end of server file. Acts as final safety net. One handler catches everything. 6/ Throwing Clear Errors Be specific, not vague. Bad: throw new Error("Error") Good: throw { status: 400, message: "Email required" } throw { status: 401, message: "Invalid token" } throw { status: 404, message: "User not found" } Clear errors: > Help users fix mistakes > Help developers debug faster Communicate like a teacher, not a cryptic machine. 7/ Logging - Debug Production Issues Log what happens so you can fix issues. What to log: > Info: Normal operations (user logged in) > Warn: Suspicious activity (wrong password attempt) > Error: Something broke (database timeout) Tools: > console.log (dev) > Winston (production) > Morgan (HTTP requests) > Sentry (error tracking) User sees: "Something went wrong" Developer sees: Full context to fix it Logs = eyes into production. 8/ Complete Error Flow How errors move through your backend: Tomorrow (Day 6): Caching & Performance Topics: > Why caching matters > In-memory caching (Redis) > Rate limiting > Query optimization > Making backends fast From working to working fast 🚀 Drop a 💚 if error handling clicked!

Even a repost will help in saving his life 🤍 Hello everyone, 🙏🙏 I sincerely request your help for a very important matter. Our friend Aakash Bohra, a student of Integrated M.Sc. Biotechnology (5th Semester) at HNBG University srinagar, uttarakhand, is currently facing a severe medical crisis. A few days ago, he got injured in college, and on the 28th, he was given a tetanus injection incorrectly the injection was administered by an intern too close to the nerve and bone, causing serious nerve damage. Now, fluid has started accumulating in his bone, spreading upward, and even affecting his eyesight. Doctors have stated that his condition is critical, and surgery on January 6 is mandatory. If the operation is delayed, they may even have to amputate his arm. His financial situation is extremely weak: His mother has undergone a brain operation and is on bed rest, His father is suffering from paralysis, The only earning member is his younger brother, who makes a small income doing daily delivery work. Doctors have estimated the total cost of the surgery and treatment to be ₹2.5 to 3 lakh, which the family cannot afford. Therefore, I heartily request your support. Even your small contribution can help save his life.

The VS Code ecosystem is unreal. • You can write Python in VS Code • You can write Java in VS Code • You can write Shell scripts in VS Code • You can build Dockerfiles in VS Code • You can write Terraform in VS Code • You can manage Git from VS Code • You can edit YAML files in VS Code
